Occulus Rift S Controls?
so, tried this a while ago in VR... and it sucked...

Have they updated it to allow for full VR support (meaning full touch/oculus rift s controls?)

or is there a way to map everything to VR?

Or can someone explain exactly how to sort out VA?

thx

No, no Touch Controller support yet, or ever, really: the game was designed to be played with HOTAS, Gamepad or KB/M, and so it remains: i don't think Touch Support has ever been even mentioned by Frontier.

Also, i play in VR myself, with a controller, and let me tell you, your opinion about Elite in VR is yours alone.

From the other thread I posted in: Im not sure why you want to use the controllers instead of a joystick for games like this.. It's so much more immersive. And if you spent the money on a VR you might as well grab a HOTAS for $100 or less.

Controls has an option for oculus touch.

As to VA, there are a tonne of threads here on the forum, some of them very detailed and well explained, so search for them in order to read them in your own tempo.

@Planewalker:

All that the Oculus Touch option does is to emulate a regular controller (I.E. using the buttons and analog joysticks). None of the Motion control stuff is used. So while technically correct, i'm pretty sure that's not what OP was asking for.

Far from it.
I'd wager most people who've tried this game in VR ditched it because it's pretty much pointless without VR controllers support unless you're willing to spend 100 more bucks on a joystick just for one game.

Actually, most people who write to this board love this game in VR, and consider it to be one of the best VR games! Some of us bought the VR set precisely for this game. And it's much more immersive to be controlled by a HOTAS than by waving hands around.

Controllers have a joystick lol
And uhh.. you realize you would be able to control the characters hands and arms to CONTROL THE ACTUAL "Joystick" and throttle in the ships cockpit. Lmfao

I could see that, but since VR alone is expensive and most (good) HOTAS are also expensive.. and people already have controllers.. sooo

works amazing in Vr with the saitek x 52 pro , didnt had to map anything , except for the boost but thats because one of the buttton on my hotas is broken . its amazing to open screens just by looking at them in vr

Go on, try to press those buttons on the ship's cockpit joystick with your VR arm! Especially when you need to press several of them every second without looking at them, while fighting another ship.

Yeah, also it's super comfortable to hover your hand still in the air with no arm support for a couple of hours, isn't it? :steammocking:

Even in space sim games that do have Touch Controller support (like X4) they completely bypass the on-screen Joystick and Throttle. The only VR flight sim i played that went with a Virtual HOTAS was Ultrawings, and that was pretty uncomfortable and sluggish, even when the fastest "ship" was a General Aviation cessna plane. I wouldn't recomment it.

Thing is flight simulation games or driving simulation games are GREAT with a HMD! But they can't make use of the VR controllers in a convincing way for obvious reasons (you have usually a joystick to control a plane or a steering wheel to control a car).

Now that you mention it, and at a risk of going a bit Offtopic, do the guys in the Asetto Corsa or Project Cars Steam forums also complain of lack of Touch Controller Support? Is that like a thing they say? or it it only here?. Legitimately curious.

For anyone finding this post Nov 5 2021, the option no longer exists ingame and at least Rift S controllers are completely useless ingame (cannot be mapped or recognised by the game in any way)

shame - maybe because Oculus rift s has officially been dicontinued from march this year iirc
