Hint: use a push-to-talk, so you only open your comm to your friend, when you push it.
It would be really helpful for some of the macro's i've seen. The ones that jump away from danger, engage docking and such.
But about the voice chat yeah, if you end up saying a key wortd for one of your commands while chatting it'll certainly pick it up.
There are a couple of ways to train MS speech recognition. The first is to run voice training, open control panel/speech recognition and pick the training option, the more frequently you run through the training the better recognition will get. The second, to improve recognition of particular words or phrases, is to dictate using speech recognition in a supported app like word pad. Keep dictating the word or phrase it has problems with, and correct the word/phrase when it makes a mistake, keep doing it until it’s accuracy improves. If you are not familiar with dictation you can run the speech tutorial from control panel/speech recognition.
Dictation in an app like word pad is also a good way to improve speech recognitions overall accuracy, just dictate passages from books, poems whatever; the more you use it and correct any errors the better it gets over time. However, for most people, running voice training a couple of times is usually more than enough to improve accuracy.
P.S. It can be used for other games too.
You can install HCS Voicepacks which have a full set of commands with voice-acted dialogue. You can even get them to fill in binds for you on the secondary controls for each function so you don't even have to mess about with that anymore. They integrate pretty well with the game, so the voicepacks are like an expansion to your ship's own voicepack.
If you don't want to use a voicepack, you can easily set up your own voice commands just by typing the voice command you want to use and setting a key or button press to it. You won't get the talk-back, but you get the voice control.
The recent HCS update is extremely detailed and it will get confused and execute commands when you are not talking to it. For example, everytime I say ♥♥♥♥ VA thinks I'm saying "ship" and it opens the ship tab on the right panel. This was really bad since I usually say ♥♥♥♥ during stressfull situations... I had to go in and disable that specific command.
