Is Voice attack really that good?
So I'm thinking about getting voice attack for Elite and was woundering if its a good as the video demos make it out to be. Is it really that responscive and interactive . also has any one used it whie using voice chat in mulitplayer? I have one freind who's interested in the game and if ever team up we'll most likely be using voice chat to comunicate and worried about voice attack getting confused .

No, it's much better!

Hint: use a push-to-talk, so you only open your comm to your friend, when you push it.

I tried it but it was having some trouble with my english accent (dutch). Plus i felt a little embarassed shouting at my pc for no particular reason going "Deploy Weapons!".

It would be really helpful for some of the macro's i've seen. The ones that jump away from danger, engage docking and such.

Yeah it's pretty good, works perfectly, you can use the trial for a while to check it out, you can have up to 20 commands I think, which is enough to do quite a bit with ED.

But about the voice chat yeah, if you end up saying a key wortd for one of your commands while chatting it'll certainly pick it up.

As Voice attack uses the MS speech engine you can train the profile to better understand you, and you should never have to shout, spoken words at normal volume should be more than adequate.

There are a couple of ways to train MS speech recognition. The first is to run voice training, open control panel/speech recognition and pick the training option, the more frequently you run through the training the better recognition will get. The second, to improve recognition of particular words or phrases, is to dictate using speech recognition in a supported app like word pad. Keep dictating the word or phrase it has problems with, and correct the word/phrase when it makes a mistake, keep doing it until it’s accuracy improves. If you are not familiar with dictation you can run the speech tutorial from control panel/speech recognition.

Dictation in an app like word pad is also a good way to improve speech recognitions overall accuracy, just dictate passages from books, poems whatever; the more you use it and correct any errors the better it gets over time. However, for most people, running voice training a couple of times is usually more than enough to improve accuracy.

I like it. Just like anything it has its problems. I use HCS Voice Packs with it. I'm not embarrased for yelling at my AI's. To me it's quite funny. They will pull my hard points out leaving a station and the station is warning me of the no fire zone and I'm yelling at my AI's to put them back up. My AI's are constantly degrading me or telling me some BS. It really keeps me intertained, especially for the long outer rim stations I may have to go to for my jobs. VoiceAttack and HCS and Elite have seemed to worked togather to improve over the years and that is a nice thing. I vote yes, it is worth it. I dont use the headset, just the mic. Yeah they pick up other noises and mess up or hear a buddy over TS and pick up a command. It's just fun to try to stop the actions before something bad happens. That is fun to me. Merry Christmas All.
P.S. It can be used for other games too.

Yeah, it's great. Go through the Windows voice recognition training scripts a few times and it'll recognise your commands every time.

You can install HCS Voicepacks which have a full set of commands with voice-acted dialogue. You can even get them to fill in binds for you on the secondary controls for each function so you don't even have to mess about with that anymore. They integrate pretty well with the game, so the voicepacks are like an expansion to your ship's own voicepack.

If you don't want to use a voicepack, you can easily set up your own voice commands just by typing the voice command you want to use and setting a key or button press to it. You won't get the talk-back, but you get the voice control.

You can also use some text-to-speech software to create those talk-back audio files. Voice Attack can play them along every trigger. And voila - a personal, free voicepack. I did just that with mine.

Yeah, voice attack and HCS voice packs work really well. BUT, I must admit, I use VA less and less the more I play. Pressing buttons is just more efficient.

The recent HCS update is extremely detailed and it will get confused and execute commands when you are not talking to it. For example, everytime I say ♥♥♥♥ VA thinks I'm saying "ship" and it opens the ship tab on the right panel. This was really bad since I usually say ♥♥♥♥ during stressfull situations... I had to go in and disable that specific command.

Thanks for all the replies. It looks like voice attack+ the elilte voice packs are worth the money. If I stick with the game long enough I'll pick them up once I get a few other things.

How do the voicepacks work? I was looking at them and noticed one Brent Spiner did, that would tell you facts about new discoveries you make. Do you only get those facts with only his pack or do they all do that?
Freyar Dec 19, 2018 @ 5:26pm
I started with voice attack, and I have more than a few packs, however I haven't used them in a long time. It's faster for me to do it than hope voice recognition can identify. State desync was also a problem.
