E:D - Steam Launcher issues (Solution/work around)
Both myself (Philippines) and my brother (Colorado) cannot login through the steam client right now. When we click the play game button it opens up a login screen. Which we do not have.

EDIT: Ok, so I think I have figured out the problem with the Steam login issue. The problem seems to only occur when you leave the Steam application open for an extended duration. The only fix is to close ED launcher and Steam then reopen both through the steam icon for ED.

I'm not sure why this happens. This is the only game I have ever experienced problems logging into through steam. The problem has not been fixed. I still have this happen daily, as I don't close Steam often. But every single time I try to launch ED I have to close steam to get the game to launch.

If this can be pinned until the problem can be fixed that would be great.

i never use steam anymore well most days.
always launch from elite folder exe and works great. only use steam if i want to take pictures of my finds

We just registered for the game so we were not given a user/password for our account. It is directly tied to the steam platform.

Purchases after 15 April 2019 will not be able to use the standalone Elite Dangerous launcher to launch Elite. Purchases before this date will be able to use the standalone launcher to play Elite Dangerous.

The logging does not work for many players, even launching from the elite.exe , when you put your username and password nothing happens pushing the connect button, not even an error message...just nothing

SOLUTION : I clicked Link Account in the launcher and linked my account. I'm no longer asked to login with my credentials, so verification codes are no longer required at least for now. This allowed me to return to the game.

Link Account does absolutly nothing. Maybe Frontier should stop using IE API ♥♥♥♥ !
Login still not working. Maybe next Year.

Unable to login again. Although to be fair, I'm not sure if this is an E:D issue or a Steam issue. Tonight, my brother logged in before I did and I just tried and am unable to. I also had problems just clicking to see this comment thread. It kept saying error connecting to steam servers.. please wait.

Ok, just got a really weird messages which has to be some type of error. It says "Update required"

"The game requires an update before you can run it. You can manually check for updates by following these steps:

*Basic force update steps in steam

There might be a slight delay between the update being released on our servers and the steam servers. Thank you for your patience.

Close Launcher"

This happens when I click login steam.

Btw, I have followed the steps, nothing happens.

Other games are launching without any issues. I just downloaded an update for Warframe at a peak of 7MB/s so my 50mbs Fiber connection is working fine.. Ugh.

close the launcher.
navagate to the ed launcher exe file and run it. the launcher will have an update button. click it

i did the following to fix this:

Some problems can be occurring due to the wrong version of the launcher being opened when launching the game.

You can fix this by following the steps below:

Right-click on the game title under the Library in Steam and select Properties.
Under the General tab click the Set launch options... button.
Enter the launch options you wish to apply, in this case: /Steam and click OK.
Close the game's Properties window and launch the game.

Just fyi, there was no update, there was a screwy login server. Right after posting this I was able to login. No update was ever downloaded.
Should the launcher persist displaying "Demo" however then please follow the below steps.

Launch the game normally
Under the "Options" tab select "Log Out Machine"
Then "Steam Log In" or log in
This should then display the "Play" function
Remember to use your email that you activated the game with

Finally should the above not amend the issue can you please try to log out of the launcher completely then reinstall the game as it might be linked to a client conflict issue.

This is happening only to people who DO NOT HAVE A LOGIN. Eg, people who bought the game after may 25th or whatever the day was where you switched over to a new system. It is happening again tonight, right this very minute.

I am presented with this screen at least 1 time per day for about 25-60 minutes usually in the evening Philippines (aka the morning in the USA).

Clicking options shows this:

There is no "Log Out Machine" option listed.

Additionally, this is happening to both me (in the Philippines) and my brother (in the USA) at the same exact time each day. When one of us cannot log in the other cannot as well. We have totally different computers and internet. So, you can remove that from your list of "possibilities".

Except... We were never sent any code to redeem. So when this bug hits. We are totally locked out of the game for anywhere from 15 minutes or the more common 1 hour.

When I check my "steam keys" I only see this:

Edit: I know all about this FAQ post and tried it but the menu I see is under options is totally different than what is shown on the website:
