Can't even get past advanced combat training...
Boy I haven't been this frustrated at a game in quite some time. How am I supposed to kill the second group if his buddy is just pounding away at me and gives me no chance to kill anything? I barely get past the first guy because (even though I'm keeping everything in the blue) I get my ass handed to me. 2nd group comes in and I get owned. Every single time.

I have been playing space combat games since I was 10 years old. I've never come across this much of an archaic system. The ship is so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ slow to turn. Yes I have it in the blue. Still turns like a mack truck. The enemy? Dances around me like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ballerina and kicks my ass into oblivion.

I've read tons of posts on here about people having the exact same problem. I use the tactics people say to use, I still die on the 2nd group.

How am I supposed to survive the second group if I'm already at depleted shield and the second guy just continually pounds my ship while I'm after the first guy.

Oh, and the tip? Stick to one ship. I HAVE BEEN STICKING TO ONE SHIP. That's why I keep dying. I stick to one ship and the other guy pounds my ship into dust.

♥♥♥♥ I've never been more ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ frustrated at a game in my life. I'm sure for 99% of the people in here I'm going to get a "You suck" or "Get better" or a "Maybe this game isn't for you".

I'm sorry but why can I ACE every other space sim without a problem but yet get owned in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ TRAINING segments for this game?

Yes, my speed is in the blue. Yes, I use chaffs. Yes, I've been sticking to one target. There's no way in hell I can get the first target down in time before I die to the second. My shields and hull are pulverised from the first fight and I have no chance to heal before the second wave comes in.

Why have such an unfair and ridiculous training segment? Do they intentionally want to piss people off?

I'm so ready for the comments about how bad I am at playing games. Look at my gaming history and tell me how bad of a game player I am.

Does anyone have any advice besides"

Keep your throttle in the blue.
Use chaffs.
Stick to one enemy.

Because if not I give up. And I really don't want to give up. This game looks awesome. Just too ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hard.

You don't have to complete all the training missions before playing the main game, and that one is especially hard and is more for pitting yourself against a very hard challenge for practice purposes.
I can give you a 4th option:

Skip it.

No joke. It's completely unnecessary and you aren't going to encounter situations like that very often in the game itself unless you put yourself in them.

You know. Now that I've read more of the comments on here, this is what I've been seeing. So I'm going to go and give the game a try now. Wish me luck.

Apparently this isn't uncommon.
I personally always saw the advanced training as more of a 'challenge' section, as you'll probably have an easier time in the game itself as you'll be able to have a ship and setup more to your preference.

Distributor management: You may be in the blue zone for agility, but with more pips to ENG you'll be even more agile. Similarly with SYS - more pips there = tougher shields. Being able to change these on the fly will help immensely.

Also, just staying in the blue zone isn't always the best course of action.

My best advice would be to leave the training for now.

Jump into game and play around with your Sidewinder. It's free and there is no re-buy
if (when) you die. Then go for easy contracts or Bounty hunting in the starting system.
Stay there until you feel more comfortable and you can upgrade your ship/get a better one.

Follow the "cops" when bounty hunting on a RES site and scan any target before shooting it.
Scan by targeting it and let the scan complete. (Bottom left of your HUD) and if it
says "Wanted", shoot it! ;-)

Always check the re-buy cost. (Insurance) and never fly without enough to get it back.
I never fly a ship I can't buy back at least 3 times.

And no, you're not bad, We've all been there mate.

I've got thousands of hours in another space sim before starting ED and I too had to
"relearn" a few things.

Keep at it and have fun!

Yep. I never passed advanced training. Plus even if you get in such a situation where there are multiple ships attacking you, you will always have the option to run away. Fighting multiple ships is always hard, because you are ALWAYS open to the second ship's attacks. Yesterday I fought 2 anacondas, and even though I melted the first one (got him to 30% hull in about 10 - 15 seconds) the second one did the same to me, and I was forced to run away. Couldn't even get the kill.

Glad to know I wasnt the only one. I skipped the SOB and started actually learning how to fly. I have to say the tutorials or lack thereof are offputting. I can see a lot of people not giving this game a chance based on how it comes across to new players.

Good luck.

And no worries, if you do some ingame combat and come back to the tutorial after +/- 30h combat playtime you will wonder in hindsight how you had so much trouble with it in the first place.

That is because you'll be doing mostly 1v1 or Xv1 where you will have allies. Once you start to get bolder you will quickly realise where your ship's limits lie. I'm in a corvette and depending on the enemy ships and loadouts i can come out on top 1v6 or have issues 1v1.

The "slow to turn" comment pretty much explains the issue, and the issue really isn't with you, OP. You haven't learned how to use vertical thrusters to increase your turn rate, but it's practically required to pass the tutorials.

Once you get that down, and move on to FA-off turning, you'll someday laugh at these tutorials. It'll be quite a while befoe you see enemies this good in the main game.

Believe it or not, the tutorials are a bit more accessible today--at launch they were even more brutal. :)

Boost. Boosting increases both turn rate and lateral thrust output.

But yeah, tutorials are noticeably harder than what you'll find yourself into unless you want to. On the other hand, if you can do those you'll be awesome with stuff like gimbals and non-stock builds.

Just bought the game last week and still struggling a bit on how to earn more money, I'm gonna try this one later. thanks
OK... I am kinda experienced played (1000h+) but last time I played these training missions was back in the early beta so now checked out how hard it is now to be able to comment here about it . :D

I have to admit it is not very easy to finish if you don't use the tools properly like chaffs and pip management (I felt it is a "perfectly calculated" training mission) so I can imagine it can be frustrating for new players at first (I died at the first time I tried at the 2nd group because the chaff button wasn't binded. (lol)

You don't need Flight assist off or any other special trick/special tactic vertical/horizontal trust etc. to finish this. You only have to make sure the first target does't touch you than when the 2nd wave (two ship) spawn be agressive and target the first ship and kill it as fast as possible while lauch chaffs when you see your shiled takes dmg .

When you fight 2vs1 always use 4 pip on shield when you see they booth shooting at you. but if you do it right the 2vs1 won't take long and the 1v1 is easy . So until 2v1 try to stay on the back of your first target and kill it very fast. Don't listen to the female guide who says don't use seeker missiles until the shield is up . You have 16 missile so you can safely waste "5" on each target.

In the 1v1 situation put 4 pip on engines 1 pip weapon 1 pip shield and if you are at his back than you don't need any pip on your shield obviously. You can easily stay at his back with 4 pips on engines and keeping throttle in the blue when he turns. Try to stay close else he will turn on you.

It not as hard as it looks the only "hard" part is the starting of 2v1 (it shouldnt take longer than 20-40 sec) but if you are fast killing the one of them using chaffs in time with good pip management than the rest is just a "walk in the park".

(They can't outturn you with 4 pip on engines.)

Tip. bind a chaff button and don't use it by changing firegroups to activate it with the "fire buttons"

here is me doing it without bothering using chaff:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1rsQmgxkvMc
mouse and keyboard...

trick is to keep four pips in systems when under fire to have 250% shield strength.. and change pips to 4 in engines when you pitch with the throttel in the blue...

OP - i'm 2000 hours in and still haven't completed that tutorial! Don't sweat it.

It's more important to do the leaving entering and landing at a station tutorials. Then traveling and all other navigating skills.

Also, read the manual to be found at the top right of the launcher.
