[SOLVED] Japanese Intro Not Playing Now
It no longer plays now at the opening of the game post patch v1.4. I know the devs deleted the file after the first patch.

I kept a copy of the original Japanese opening file named "AM_TOZ_OP_001_JPN.bk2". I renamed it to "AM_TOZ_OP_001.bk2" so it would relplace the ENG intro version.

I know this is a very minor issue but is anyone else having this issue or know of any workaround for the ♥♥♥ intro to work post patch v1.4?

The game checks the file itself (likely a size or a CRC check) and if it's an exact match to the Japanese opening, it won't play. What you need to do is open the Japanese video file in a hex editor and add some data (such as 10 01) to the end of the file. This won't affect the video, but it will change the file's size and will give it a different CRC.

Alternatively, there should be a "fixed" copy floating around (try looking around on /r/tales on reddit) that you can download and use.

@MHzBurglar

Thanks, I found the file and it works perfectly. I appreciate the feedback.
hmm. last time I downloaded it from here
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/168077-tales-of-zestiria/72698614?page=3
and it's still working. there's sub but it seems the video is a little low quality.

can you share that file that you found ?

Grab 1.1.2 of TZFix and you can set IntroVideo=... and have it play ANY .bk2 file you want. This will make things much, much simpler when Steam patches the game.

Name your Japanese opening video something custom and then just point IntroVideo= to that file in tzfix.ini.

Super easy to bypass that =P

Leave the original opening like it is, but have TZFix redirect Bink to the custom file at run-time. The game still wastes time checksumming the file (which I think I will bypass as well when I get some time); the change is made AFTER the game okays the original file and just before Bink loads the file from disk.

[TZFIX.System] IntroVideo=RAW\MOVIE\AM_TOZ_OP_001_JPN.bk2

Voila :)

The funny thing is, that new version of TZFix was posted just moments after I posted my solution. :P

I'm using it with the original, unmodified file now and it works great.

That is because moments after I saw this thread, I remembered that was a feature I meant to add a long time ago =P It did not take very long because I am very familiar with the internals of the game now :)
