We're not you and have no idea as to what you're specifically looking for and any combination of such desired mods. We also do not what you consider by definition to be "over powered" as I've seen that discussion for 6 years in debate with S+ being one way or the other subjectively in the minds of some players.
You could go to the battlemetrics website and filter their search system and pour through the lists of servers to see various mods either used or advertised in use(you cant see all mods a server uses comprehensively so you have to cross reference). There are 70,000+ out there with many using mods to see.
So all in all, decide what features you're looking for with your friend and then do the due diligence of researching in the workshop.
With that said, there are some things to tell you to think about:
1. Not knowing when you left, keep in mind some things that mods used to do are not actually incorporated into the gave via ini file changes(speed enabling for flyers, player/dino higher levels), stacking, and more.
If you are less interested in doing the ini file changes then more or less you can just try to use such mods but.....
2. Make sure in your research that you do not use broken/abandoned mods. Almost daily that is one of the top 2 reasons issue complaints on the forums. Look at the dates last updated, read comments and posts in their workshop pages for issues, read the mod maker even declaring they've abandoned it(most dont write that though, they just stop updating) and more.
3. Dont add dino adding mods from different authors. Similarly dont add mods from different authors with overlapping/same functions. That can cause crashes or break things.
4. Don't mod glut. Every mod you add means when an update/change occurs to the base game, you're rolling the dice for an issue until (or if) the mod maker sorts it.
Some I think are worth checking out is Dino Pickup for those times your dinos get stuck, SS for added buildings and QoL additions. Hmmm I like to use Pipes N Cables because it offers different size cables and pipes. Other than that I recommend tweaking your server settings to be just how you want. On ours I went as far as redoing the supply drops.
If you like breeding a ton of different dinos I also recommend checking out egg n poop collector although I think SS has buildings that do that. Egg N Poop collector is just a less powerful version of that.

First mod has been abandoned since 2017 and prone to issues. Not recommended.
1. QoL Improvement Mods
"QoL" stands for quality of life, meaning it makes your life easier and less tedious. The mods that can improve your gameplay are as follows...
a) Structures Plus (Universal mod, it gives you better building options, resource pulling, etc.)
b) Dino Storage v2 (easier storage and transportation).
c) Stacking mods (but be very careful with this, there are MANY broken ones, and some of them are OP where they kill the weights...making them as light as a feather).
d) Teleporting mods, to eliminate the need for travel
e) Spoilers. Get spoiled meat fast.
2. Building and Decoration Mods
Sometimes, they're just aesthetic, but sometimes, they're useful. Depends on your taste.
a) Keeps and Fort. If you like medieval themed buildings.
b) Eco Decorations (TONS of Eco related mods, they are purely for decoration)
There's so many that I can't list honestly...
3. Gameplay changing mods
This generally means the game is very different from base game. This is good if you feel bored of the game and you want to spice it up with different mods that can really change the gamestyle. Do note that many of these mods are NOT meant to be mixed together.
a) Primal Fear
b) Pugnacia
c) Ark Eternal
d) Ark Omega
Be sure to read these mods very carefully before using them. Generally, once you use them in your game, removing them could mean a lot of losses.
I still use it in my solo games even to this day, and I have only ever had a couple of issues with it, neither of which are anywhere close to gamebreaking, and neither of which pop up very frequently at all ;) I can vouch for it's reliability and recommend it without reserve.

This last one is modular Automated Ark. I would strongly suggest Core/Kitchen/Power add-on only, so 3 in total. Makes tek generators use gasoline, kibble costs only dino eggs and the storage vaults and freezers are the best I have ever found being 1000 slots for vaults and freezer all but stops spoilage and increased spoil timer on some things to over 1000 days.
