You don't get it, do you? Paradox changed its DLC policy a long time ago so that when they release a DLC, they also release free content alongside it, partly to make sure important mechanics aren't locked behind a paywall.

In the end, you get a lot of content and changes to the game for free, and if you want to support that, you can also buy the DLC, which adds even more content. Strictly speaking, the paid DLC itself may contain a bit less than the DLCs from 10 years ago, because back then a lot more of that content was actually locked behind the paywall.

But if you combine the DLC with the free content that comes with it, you're basically getting the same amount of content you would have gotten back then.

Of course, there's also the fact that pretty much everything has gotten more expensive. But in the end, you can either spend that money on two skins in League of Legends or on a DLC for Europa Universalis.

Some people complain about DLCs being too expensive even though they can give you many more hours of gameplay and enjoyment, while others are perfectly fine with paying the same kind of money for a couple of expensive skins. Somehow that's considered completely normal.

You really can't please anyone these days.
krispy kreme would be proud of the glaze
I like the new DLC policy - if it only affects 5 nations it makes me feel like it's really worth it if I play them.

But I also don't need to buy it if I'm not playing them - it's not going to make my game incomplete for skipping a DLC
