Wanting to get back into the game but..
I'm not sure where it is at currently regarding content, QOL and general improvements.

I played it quite a lot on initial release and started to like it. But the end game started really to bother me and I think there were other weird things and bugs with the game that I just learned to live with.

I've been reading the forums every now and then but honestly it doesn't feel encouraging to start the game after reading how bad time people are having with it.

If you own the game already, then you can try it yourself. There is a group of players that like changes that have already happened. And there is a part of the player base that thinks we are standing in one place for last year and moving backward in some aspect of gameplay.

I'm part of the second one, but maybe you will like those changes in mechanics that happened over last year. That is a thing that only you can judge.

In a few hours the new patch should go live. There is a lot of changes in it, some new content, and a love or hate part in the form of removing hourly ticks from game and going EU IV daily ones.

Overall no one can tell you if you like it or not. The only way is to try it yourself.
I do not think there has been any improvements on the late-game, it is still common to play it for 200-250 years and then start over.

I think it is much better game now, but I also use pile of mods to make it fit my playstyle, without any mods I would not bother at all.
You already payed for it. Try it for yourself. This forum is dominated by people still complaining about it despite not having played it in months.

Maybe you'll like it. Maybe you'll hate it. But either way, you would have made the call for yourself.
half the playerbase loves it with a passion and half hates it with a passion, no one can tell you whether you will like it or not, just have to play yourself
In forums, you'll usually see mostly negative posts, simply because people are more likely to write something when they're upset about something. That's completely normal.

The game has evolved over time. Some people like it, others don't. The best way to find out whether you actually enjoy it is to just try it yourself.
