cannot covert a conquered province to my religion.
as castile im trying to convert a conquered morocco province to catholic.
but there is no progress. then i see under the demography tab under religion:
"the combined conversion speed modifier at this location reduce conversion to zero"

there are no buildings in that location or anything.
after several years of cabinet member converting there are still 0 catholic, so its not that the sunni pop is outgrowing the catholic pop or anything. its that there are 0 conversions.

i have not set islam as accepted or anything.
one thing is if there was more people born than you could convert, but converting 0 in the land that you now own and is actively converting is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ game mechanic. honestly when you are actively converting the population should NOT get any choice other than be converted or go away.
but apparently the population can just refuse to be converted. that is completely unacceptable as gameplay imo.

And this works with assimilation, where you want to convert one culture to your main culture. even though there was a massive overweight of non castilian converting to castilian actually makes some of the non castilian cultures become castilian.
it should work the same way with the religious conversions.
Yes, lets just not have any realism. Convert or go away - sigh. Also, you need control and maybe even proximity to increase conversion and assimilation etc. Which is incredibly realistic. You can't just click and say "convert" if you're culture or religion is totally unacceptable or you have no control. That's not how life works or governance.
yeah totally realistic that a country cant seem to convert anyone in a province even if they are spending ressources.
back then they could force convert, expell or kill people.
having realism would mean that you could absolutely convert a province when sending people to do it.
1. You cannot convert tribes. First you need to expell them or change them to peasants using a cabinet action.
2. You need control to assimilate non-tribes.
3. Some modifiers can effectively change your assimilation efficiency to below 0%.

ad.3 Make sure your culture views a culture you want to convert as hostile. Make sure their culture views Castilian as friendly. Make sure their trade center is assimilated. If not - assimilate it first. Burgehers assimilation is blocked in a market center - you need to use different tools like expelling population and migrating your own so there is more Castilian burghers than other cultures (then the penalny will disapear). Make sure your centralization/decentralization slider doesn't give you too much penalty. Make sure you culture have higher influence than their culture. You can view modifiers when hovering over population in demography view of a province.

EDIT: oops, I misread that it is about culture.

Same things apply to religion. You cannot convert tribes. You need control as well.
