No hate but..
Could someone tell me how this game is almost 60 dollars.
It looks like a poorly drawn visual novel from the 90's just from the screenshots. isn't this about lolis and battleship or something?

(I'm being 100% serious I actually want to know if this is a meme or not ))

This game was released in 2004, the price on steam is about its original price.

No it's not those hentai stuff. It has a touching story that I'd like to recommend to everyone.
If the game looks poorly drawn to you, may I suggest watching the anime?

Note: There will be ninjas cutting onions around you.

Clannad has an emotional branching storyline with hours and hours of content. I think I paid around $45 for this game because I got it on sale when if was first released on Steam.

Honestly if I would have never played the game/or watched the anime I probably would have said the same things.
It's so old and the art is kind of off putting with eyes that are five times bigger then the usual anime eyes.
This VN is very(!) long though and tells a pretty emotional story that makes you cry. Thus being extremely popular.

Still I have to agree with you. The price is pretty high but I guess that's the only way they can make profit with it. I got it on sale and it was worth it for me.

I would like to say something like "buy the game and you'll understand" but the price is just (like you said) too high. And the story needs some time to develop, so if you ever want to understand the appeal that everyone has for this weird game then you can watch the anime of it. It's a pretty good adaptation of this VN. Then MAYBE you'll understand why everyone likes it...or not.

No, it's about a guy who meets a girl and learns the meaning of family, with a minor subplot about reviving a school drama club (and some other girls' stories, and some guys' stories). Where did you get anything about pedophilia and battleship?

Clannad was the most expensive VN on steam, until Danganronpa 3 came out. Clannad is a long visual novel that can easily take more than 50+hours to complete. This game is fully voiced, and a big reason why most of the VNs cost what they do. The art actually is not that bad, at the very least you get used to it after a bit of reading. I've played VNs with much worse art that were still pretty good. So art as a rating is just subjective. I got Clannad on sale, and if you are interested in reading it, I'd advise waiting for it to go sale too.

The price was a sticking point for a lot of people. So I'm sure it is one of the reasons why Little Busters, recently released by Key, is only 34.99.

I've wanted to play this game for so long, but the insectoid character art is just too repulsive for me to stomach. Tragic as I enjoy VNs and anime--this is just the worst art I've ever encountered in either.

It's worth every dollar. I highly recommend it.

Little Busters got released too!? Gonna have to buy that soon. I've watched Clannad at least 3 or 4 times and when I saw that it was released on steam I bought it immediately. I think the story kind of transends the cost, though it is a little steep, sure. If you don't want to spend the money just watch the anime. It's definitely one of the most touching stories out there.

And as a side note, you should watch anything by Key. All of their stories are phenominal. I'm working on Planetarian now.

OMG,Clannad only sales about 20 dollers in China....

Keep in mind the Chinese currency is a lot weaker than the US Dollar. Games are often sold cheaper in such countries to compensate for that.

Not going to lie.. Kotomi's sprite scared me a number of times, just popping up on the screen. Reminded me of a giant bug creature, so I get your point. However, I still think the story makes up for the art personally.

@raisingsun010 Yeah Little Busters is out now and I'm pretty sure Rewrite and Angel Beats are going to be worked on next.

Oh god love Clannad. As others said it is definitely worth it. I don't think the art is bad at all personally.. I like it. I still need to get around to finishing after story bit the feels! :rendoh:

I admittedly watched the anime first but even after watching it the VN is still very much worth getting and playing. It is far superior to many VNs that some might be accustomed to.

It's all about the story, everybddy will fall in love with the story (if u can stand some classic anime style school life at first), and every arc it gets deeper and amazing. By the time you are in love with the story, u already fall in love with the art. Any way actually I believe most ppl buying this is because they saw the anime (which was adapted from this game), i mean u can check out the anime first(especially 2nd season, cried like a baby)

ps. Yea definitely buy it when it's on sale, i got it when it was 50off, and it's on sale all the time like GTA5
