Companions won't talk to me! HELP!
I have completed two of the planets and am almost done with the third (left Korriban for last). Now I have completed Bastilla and Mission's side quests and have done all of the dialogue for Jolee, HK-47, Carth (also triggered his side quest). Whenever I try to talk to Juhani and Canderous, however, I don't get the dialogue options to progress their dialogue trees. Anybody have any idea how to fix this? I've been digging around a backed up save game, but I can't find the numerical responsible for the 2 quest lines.

Cool that you have figured this out. So they don't all work on level up, but just Juhani?

They all work on level ups, but only Juhani's are disabled if you level up too quickly, the rest are still accessible regardless of level. The others have certain Star Map criteria that locks out the early dialogs, but you would have to go a long time without ever talking to them to run afoul of that.

I used to always cheat to max level back in the day as soon as I hit Dantooine and had my Jedi class unlocked. I would never have continued playing the game at that point if I noticed that the companion dialogue stopped working in the majority of cases. Juhani is the exception because in those runs her dialogue never progressed beyond her first apology conversation and it stood out to me as a result. I assumed it was bugged, but it's based on level up thresholds.

I've had countless problems with Juhani and I can never seem to get her to talk once I warn her about staying off the dark path. I'm convinced there's a bug that obliterates all her talk of Revan and Taris and whatnot. Canderous I've never had a problem with as long as I'm nice to him.

Sorry that I don't have an answer, but I'll be watching this thread keenly as well.

My specific problem is that after asking Juhani about how she became a Jedi and treating her nicely, I can't get the next line which is about her people being oppressed etc. Same with Canderous. He tells me his first story about Mandalorians fighting solely for the honor of battle, and then, when he's supposed to tell the story about the Basilisk war droid, I get diddly. I can just ask him about the planet and adrenal stims, and the only options with Juhani are to tell her that I want to talk to her and then go "Nothing. Never mind."

The dialogue for party member quests unlocks as you gain experience. You probably just need more experience. Canderous and Juhani take the longest to get all their dialogue.

I actually tried adding xp through the KSE and nothing happened. Plus I was already lvl 14, so I think they should have popped. I was lvl6 or 7 when I got off Taris, and Canderous was already with me. Don't know what his deal is.

OK, I just figured out that with Juhani it's a matter of story progression. I flipped the Global Boolean for the completion of a third piece of the star map and lo and behold I could talk to her. According to Boolean values my character had only the Korriban map left to collect, so it's either collect 3 maps and then talk to her, or collect all except the Korriban one. That being said I am still unable to find the flag necessary for Canderous to move ahead as well.

There's definitely something else going on with Juhani's dialogue though. Regardless of how much XP or planet order she'll say her peice at the end of Dantooine then cease all conversation for me. (I know this mainly because I always try talking to her at the beginning and end of each planet, if not inbetween.)

There's something else going on under the hood that may get bypassed if you flip the switch to manually force it, but if left to its own devices it will not correct itself. Not for me at least.

Hmmm, unless it's because Korriban is normally my third map (Not including Dantooine). If so that's some ass backward programming if it auto-ends the quest due to planet order. Moreover if it takes three planets to be able to talk to her again after the initial conversation at the end of Dantooine.

I do the planets in the order Kashyyk, Tatooine, Manaan and Korriban. I pull each of the companions off the Hawk and do all available dialogue after completing each planet. Mission and Bastila usually trigger on Kashyyk, Jolee on Tatooine, Carth and Canderous on Manaan and Xor turns up to start Juhani's sidequest on Korriban.

I typically do the planets in the order listed by the Jedi Council because that way I get to resolve Zaalbar's quest immediately and I can get all 9 companions in no time. Right now, I have completed Kashyyk and Tatooine, and I am midway through Manaan. Up to this point I have completed Bastilla and Mission's personal quest and exhausted Jolee's dialogue. As soon as I got Carth out of the Ebon Hawk, his quest triggered as well. HK-47 has also been repaired all the way, and I am basically waiting for the events on the Leviathan to continue his dialogue progression. Bastilla has already been kissed. Now assuming that Juhani really triggers when I complete Manaan through gameplay and not KSE, which I will post about, the only remaining companion interaction should be Canderous. Since I have been together withi him since level 6 or 7, and now I'm at late 15, which gives us more time together than Juhani. Also, I was just watching part of this dude's playthrough on youtube, and he could speak to canderous at lvl12, just after leaving Dantooine. Very WTF-mate moment for me.

I finally figured out the whole thing. Most of the character dialogue unlocks based on your level. So if your level is high enough you can walk up to Bindo and talk to him. Then quicksave, quickload and talk to him again. Canderous and Juhani function on level ups. So keep your level as low as possible and start your first conversations with them early. If you leave them on the Ebon Hawk, like I did, and keep questing until you have gained 5 levels, you'll just get a single dialogue more for all the 5 levels. So talk to them and save-load to exhaust as many dialogues as you can before gaining your next level. Then rinse and repeat. Once you get to the point where Juhani's dialogue doesn't progress, you have to take another piece of the star map to push things forward. If you have collected all 4, no other dialogue will unlock for Juhani. Hope this helps :)

A very useful and well researched thread. You did good work and in doing so you have solved my problem as well. Thank you.

Amazing! I never thought it before, this saved me from digging too much, thanks for the help :D
Sorry to wake this thread up after so long but I’m wondering if I screwed myself here. I leveled up quickly and have been doing most of my companion quests and so far everything has worked fine. However I can’t get Canderous to tell me any war stories after the first one. And I should have long past the level to get the others from him. Did I accidentally screw his quest line up by leveling too fast?

I'm operating off of vague memories here, but as far as I remember, the dialogue popped based on level ups. So the idea would be that you would recruit as early as possible, and speak to your companions as early as possible. Otherwise, if you max out your level, you won't be able to trigger the dialogue flag.
That being said, you could always find some sort of save editor that would allow you to lower your level and set your xp to like 10pts away from leveling, and rinse and repeat as much as necessary to unlock all the dialogue. Would be my advice if you've inadvertently screwed yourself.
Hope this helps, and sorry for the delay, but I have ADD and literally saw your notification, and thought I had replied, and I didn't notice it again till today, and realized I hadn't :(
Yeah... that whole 'unlock dialogue each level up' mechanic is a pain. One of the things that kinda sucked imo. I couldn't get some to que up cuz of that my first time playing this. Kind of forgot about it on another play thru (cuz had been so long since previous play) and messed it up then too. It's too easy to mess this up. Not sure what the devs were thinking there--just NOT thinking most likely.
It's not as complicated as you're making it out to be. You simply talk to your party whenever you land on a planet and whenever you leave.

This isn't the case for 8/9 companions. Even if you cheat yourself to 2/18 on Dantooine after attaining your Jedi class, the companion dialogue will still recognise that you've leveled up and all dialogues will be unlocked as usual. You may need to zone to a new planet between them to get them to show up though. The only exception to this is Juhani. Leveling too fast with her will cause her dialogue chain to break.
