TRON: Evolution

This will might solve the launch problem if the game doesn't show up at all. (Fix in comments)
Update: Seems like somebody found a better workaround!

Thank you, Chaz! :D

Update: I'm not 100% sure if this works. I'm still investigating what I did to make it work.
All I can say this far is I'm still pretty sure it's a PhysX issue.

(Important notice: Do this at your own risk, installing an older PhysX will might cause problems in newer games. And make sure you're downloading PhysX from the legit website. I don't know if you have to uninstall the Legacy version of PhysX, I tried to reinstall Legacy, and it didn't cause any problems at all (thank you Redrain85 for pointing that out :) .)

So I've been trying a few workarounds without success. Then my little brain started thinking. I had the same problem with Turok from 2008 (which is made by the same company) and the solution of that problem was to install an older version of PhysX.
First of all, make sure you have this problem by go to Documents - Disney Interactive Studios - Tron Evolution - UnrealEngine3 - GridGame - Logs, and click on the latest "Launch-backup-(with some dates and times). If it says something like:

"Critical: appError called: Assertion failed: GNovodexSDK [File:C:\Tron_Installation\Grid\MilestonesPC\MilestoneBeta\UnrealEngine3\Development\Src\Engine\Src\UnPhysLevel.cpp]" PhysX is might the problem.

I uninstalled the newer version of PhysX on my computer, and installed an older version (in this case 9.12.1031). You do not have to reinstall the game by installing PhysX.

This solved my problem.

But yeah, make sure you have the same error as I did, because if it says something else, this is probably not why your game won't start.

Good Luck, and happy gaming!

(Please leave a comment to tell us if it worked or not)

If you're having problems with Game For Windows Live, try Redrain85's workaround:

If the problem is PhysX for a number of people (and good job sleuthing that, Tozzeb!), then it still applies even if you're using an ATI/AMD GPU. PhysX will switch to using the CPU for physics instead.

So PhysX is still needed and very much applies to ATI/AMD owners as well. :)

I would try installing the PhysX Legacy Driver first, before resorting to uninstalling the latest PhysX. The legacy and latest versions can be installed side-by-side. It might help get TRON Evolution running (for at least some people?).

http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.12.1031-legacy-driver.html

If the Legacy driver doesn't work, then folks will have to resort to uninstalling the latest PhysX and going back to an older version. (Which is kind of brutal.)

Ahh, I see. I'll update the post. Thank you for pointing that out :)

Actually, I think TRON Evolution uses the CPU all the time for physics, regardless of whether you have an Nvidia GPU or not.

That is, unless you edit one of the .ini files and force the game to use your Nvidia GPU for PhysX instead.

I mention what to edit in this post:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/315440/discussions/0/613937943169742066/#c613938575218334525

It might give people a performance boost on Nvidia GPUs.

Odd that it's trying to load some module for Physx, maybe putting that needed module in the same directory would work?

I do have that error and I tried installing the legacy driver, which didn't seem to help. But I also found that my current Physx version says 9.12.1031, so if I were to try uninstalling and installing an older version, what version would I install in that case?

Hmm, that's odd. Just to make clear, the 9.12.1031 version you're using, is that a Legacy one or a normal one? If it is the Legacy one, try to uninstall the Legacy one (dunno if it makes any difference, but that's what I did) and install the regular 9.12.1031. (The Legacy one will say NVIDIA PhysX (Legacy) where you uninstall the software). You can reinstall the Legacy one afterwards.

Hmm it says both the Legacy and regular are the 9.12.1031 version. And I just installed the Legacy one from the link redrain85 posted above.

I see. Did you try to run the game before you installed the legacy one?

Thank you for responding btw, so I know if it worked or not. :)
Maybe my workaround didn't work after all. But I'll see what I can do.

Haha what the ♥♥♥♥? it's working now! Hey guys, try uninstalling ALL physx programs, and delete C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\PhysX just to make sure. Then install the latest here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/physx-9.14.0702-driver.html

Yeah, I only just installed Legacy. And just now I uninstalled it and tried again and still no luck. And no problem, I'm just crossing my fingers that something will start working.

Oh, nice! I'll try it out in just a minute!

Update:I can confirm that Tron is still working, even if I installed that version

And sorry RedMineWolf, seems like my workaround isn't working :(
Sorry for wasting your time.

No problem. I'll keep working on it, maybe something will click. I appreciate any suggestions at this point.

EDIT: Actually, I tried Chaz's fix and it finally worked! So removing Physx and re-installing that version seems to work.

So you have to remove every trace of PhysX - including deleting everything in "C:\Program Files (x86)\NVIDIA Corporation\PhysX" - and then install the latest? That should be completely unnecessary! That is so messed up.

EDIT: I just wanted to add that what I meant by "unnecessary" and "messed up" is that it's Disney's fault (or whoever they hired to package it for Steam). Not you, Chaz! Great work in finding a fix that works, for people whose game won't start at all. :)
