What about porting Ys IV and Ys V?
I'd like to play Ys series in chronological order...

Both were console games, while this was natively for the PC. XSEED don't have the resources to do ports like that.

If we cannot go backwards let's release in the West Ys VII PC, I'll made you a statue.

Ys V doesn't have a remake yet and the original Super Famicom release isn't a viable candidate for porting (and it's bland too, gameplay- and music-wise).

As for Ys: Memories of Celceta (Ys IV remake)... Well, I guess we'll see if XSEED is willing to do any actual porting at some point. They've been pretty adamant about not having the resources to do it, but it kind of seems like they've loosened their stance on that lately. Keep buying Ys games on PC and maybe it'll happen. :P

It's a port of a PS2 game, maybe they make the favourite games of the serie first.

No, the PS2 game is a port of the original PC game. We just have to hope Falcom decides to grace us with some PC ports in the future.

Ys IV takes place before Ys III, so you've already been playing them out of chronological order. The new Ys game being made for the PS4 is supposed to be between V and VI as well.

That, and Ys V is kinda crappy compared to the rest of the series.

Put an Ys game on Steam and I'll buy it. I'd love to see the handheld Ys (7 and MoC) get a Steam release. Whoever makes/finances these decisions needs to make it happen. :RogueMoneybags:

Seriously guys, if it came out after Zwei II in Japan (September 2008), it was made for PC first, ported later and usually not by Falcom unless the port came out after 2008. If it came out after Zwei II, it was made for console first and any PC ports weren't done by Falcom. Ys Seven PC would require Xseed getting the licensing from the Chinese company that did the port as well and that may be something they are having trouble with.

Xseed only has 1 programmer and while Sara is definitely amazing, it's likely too much to be asking her to program a port from scratch since console coding and PC coding are vastly different things. And the port of Akiba's Trip to PC is being done by the original dev. Adding new features isn't hard, especially when Sara has code from other games to refer to (VI is the same engine and Oath and Origin)

Ys IV is readily available in many forms. SFC version (Mask of the Sun) has been fan translated, PCE-CD version (Dawn of Ys) has been fan translated (and fan dubbed too). Also Celceta on the PS VITA. PS2 version by Taito isn't worth talking about.

Ys V is pretty bad, and plays more like a sequel to Lagoon than a Ys game. Has a fan translation if you're curious enough, PS2 version by Taito also isn't worth talking about, but still somehow better than the SFC game. Will probably get a remake someday.

Proper PC ports simply don't exist, and XSEED can't just make them magically appear from thin air. So you'll have to find a way to play IV (Celceta if you can, since it's the "canon" one), and maybe V (For Terra, if nothing else) on your own.

Falcom remade Ys 4 recently, doesn't seem too unlikely Ys 5 might get the same treatment at some point.

Speaking of 4 there is a pc version of Celceta actually, it's just that-

A: Apparently it's not very good, it wasn't made by Falcom themselves but rather a Chinese company named Joyoland they partner with in the region.

B: Said Joyoland has expressed an interest in doing their own western release of the game. That was almost two years ago and there hasn't been any news since so I've got no idea what's going on there.

Are you sure you don't mean Ys VII there? I know there was a chinese PC version of VII. If Celceta got one too, thats the first I've heard of it.

So like are the old versions of IV actually any good, as a Vita owner I've played (and nearly platinumed) Memories of Celceta, so Im not too bothered about the plot side of it, since that replaces the two versions of IV as the canonical story, but just wondering if either of them are actually GOOD games to play.

I figure a Ys 5 remake is pretty much guarateed at somepoint, everything else has been refreshed at this point. Though the new one isn't that, I believe. Im out of touch, lately I'm more interested in whether or not someone is going to localize Tokyo Xanadu, cause that looks pretty spiffy 8v

@lostsomething, I believe that the Chinese PC port hasn't been released yet, at least I haven't been able to find it in Chinese. Do you have a source with their interest in expressing a western pc port, I haven't read such statement from Joyoland yet, the last and only message was in Jan 2014 about them porting to PC.

Hmm, I think I probably did have it conflated with Ys 7.

I don't care if a Y's game is crappy..still want to see them released on here possibly.

It would be very nice to play the classics with widescreen resolution, controller support, etc., but I'd rather have Seven and Memories of Celceta.

We've been supporting Falcom/Xseed since Oath in Felghana was released on Steam a few years ago. It's time for us to finally receive the "modern" Ys games.
