Mechanics question..
So most of my best runs use some reaper tower combo, but they're wildly inconsistent for me... like hey, we banged up against 55 this time.. oh didn't break 40 this time.. it's not always easy to tell why a run was bad with so much rng with the banner, map, resources etc but i've noticed one thing specifically with reaper that got me thinking.

One of the relics you get offered with reapers is one that adds a third swing for 10% damage (forget the name) and since i stopped taking it my runs have seemed to be averaging better. I stopped taking the relic because i'm concerned about how it interacts with the final chaos strike banner for reaper which procs a barrier buster-esque attack every 9th swing.

My question is: if CS hits every 9th swing, is the relic screwing you because it will most often cause CS to proc on swing 3 for 10% rather than alternating between swing 1 and 2 which do far, far more damage than the 3rd? Does CS even use the current swings damage to calculate its own damage or does it use something like base tower damage?

I plan on actual testing when i can.. but it's gonna take a while.

edit: clarity

Good question. No idea how you can test for that. Only thing (unrelated) to your question about differing waves that hit me was what do you invest in upgrades for chaos reaper? I avoided fire rate for ages, just did max crit, couple range, then armour/penetration. As soon as I focused fire rate, forgetting range, the wave went from nearly always die at 55 to making it to 65+.

I don't think i've tried heavy fire rate for reaper. Do you focus on fire rate exclusively or do you get basics like acc/pen? What banners do you favor?

id say 80% fire rate? given that you can realistically only get towers to lvl 12-15 and can get 40% crit from relics/research, so 5 into crit chance, 1 range if needed, rest fire rate - of course depends on build - if you go dispersion and use shadow towers only for block/penetrate, or just frost and reaper.
unless i mistake, double strike is essential but only good for a couple banners, as barrier shatter base damage much more valuable...rekon if I could, id have 1 double strike, the crit damage increase one... critical bleed only up to 100%, then pure barrier shatter.
not sure but mayyybe frost scythe's main thing is it mutiplies EVERYTHING after all calcs are done - e.g crit hits, multiplies by crit dam, then multiplies again.
so yea seems like base damage is king.

I'm not sure about base damage. When i tried it i had middling results but maybe just a couple bad luck runs. Knowing how things are calculated in this game would help tremendously.
