Good towers, bad towers
Am I missing something or do towers have a very high disparity in power?

Haven't unlocked everything yet, but so far the only two that make sense building into are raven and reaper, rest of the damaging towers are just there to survive to round 10-12 and hopefully not steal too many banners.

ah ha....you'll see ;0)
I'll see what?
I'm rolling up ascensions and its kinda boring already so don't mind spoilers.
all towers have their up and downs,

if u are using same tower stack at the beginining this become extreme

such as archer tower need triple arrows in order to survive those minions rush. and instead of stacking raw dmg, u would focuse more on critical damage / debuffs
Right, but then I have all these cute arrow towers with bleed/multishot/whatever banners that get outdamaged and outclassed as soon as I put down one reaper even without any banner synergy.
not sure about reaper tower,
if i remember correctly Arc tower and runestone tower are the easiest to reach lv38-40 in old patch. i think i did reach this far with archer tower recently
havent tried any other tower start yet.

i usually use reaper as secondary tower at around 30+waves if the main tower doesnt have very good shield dmg
Ye arc and runestone do seem to have potential at least (i.e. with spell scaling once you unlock hero tower), maybe archer/mortar are just starting towers and aren't meant to be able to be proper builds.
What happens after wave 40 btw? It felt like a hard stop despite game posing as "endless".
archer towers are great, they're cheap, only need wood and you can make them produce wood from talents(especially good on higher difficulties where you have less workers) so you will have a lot of them.. You can pretty much skip stone altogheter and they dont cost gold at all so it makes eco that much easier/faster. You can even go full bleed so you can ignore all the crit, dmg etc mods, so you get a lot more consistent banners as well.

Endless goes a lot higher than 40 rounds, but only very hard scaling builds can get there usually.
Mortars are quite viable, I've done an Ascension run that was just Rune+Mortar quite easily. Mortar acting as the AoE swarm breaker, with a cluster of them sending out a surge at the front of the line where the densest grouping is (aiming priority being boss > Group > Front) and my rune towers just being "Delete anything big that is here!" with it's 50k+ DPS mega-beam, that if it kills something (such as the many small mobs sneaking through at lower HP from the mortar spam), unleashes an AoE 5000k DPS ray from god. Seriously, it's hilarious when you have a ton of smaller rune towers Prism feeding into one super-stacked one that is pure AS/Range. After all, you can get Prism share to over 100% damage transference (So a 200 damage tower feeds your "Core" tower can give it 300+ damage on the beam, with 3x as much AS), add in a huge Forge boost (That stacks on every tower that then feeds into the main tower, further stacking it) and you can get quite hilarious damage outputs.

It was just pure those 2 till the final waves after the last banner drop where I also slapped in several shadowbolt towers for the sake of ensuring a damage boost on the boss. Because free +10% damage is free +10% damage.

Ah yes, the ever valid "If I can't kill the enemy sometime this week, I'll just ensure they can't even MOVE until sometime next week!" choice.
You should check priority target towers. That will ensure towers will be more efficient. For example, you want AoE towers (like mortars) aim crowds of enemies, arrow and others one-target towers aim to first enemies, and so on.
It's possible to "complete" the game (ie do level 30 on normal) with pretty much any single tower apart from frost. Ascension plays a little differently, it's more about eco and past 10/15 it's more about a formula you need to follow, down to what hero you choose.

On normal, after wave 40 it gets significantly worse.
