How to rename animals?

So, I would really like to rename my tamed animals. Because Boar 1 or Boomrat 1 are not the best random names the game could give.. I really don't care about random names, but this kills my immersion.

Is there a way to rename animals? Because I can't find that option when I click on them.

I saw quill18 play the game in his latest series on youtube, and he could not find it either.
Maybe its not possible in the current version?

Yep , if a animal is bounded to someone, the ai will name it. You can´t do it yourself.

The animal doesn't need to bond with someone to be named. All it needs to do is "nuzzle" a colonist and they'll give it a name.

You'll get a pop-up at the top of your screen saying somthing like "So and so named rabbit 1 shaggy after being nuzzled".

You have to edit the save in a text editor.

How do you get them to nuzzle? Just wait??

You don't need a mod to rename animals. Just click on them and go to the training tab. There is an option there to rename them next to their name.

Thank you, CaptainCamembert! I found it. It's an icon just to the left of the "X" at the top right of the training tab.
