Containers, shelves, racks, pallets, closets, bins
think about it

we have zones to organize materials, and this has sufficed up to a point. after many many hours playing this game, I have decided the thing that bothers me most is lack of any storage solutions.

i know the creator is hard at work deploying 1.0 so i think any chance for this to be implemented into the game is for some very tallent one of you's to make a mod. maybe there is one?

let me give an example of how this mechanic would work:

a wooden rack that can vertically stack my textile materials but if i neglect to turn off storing stone blocks, eventually it reaches a weight limit, collapses and spews materials everywhere. but build a steel or platesteel rack and it can support damn near anything. extend this idea to hangers for cloths, bins for eggs and other assortments, racks to hold wood, armories to store rifles ... etc etc etc. all in an effort to increase the theorhetical storage space per square and improve asthetics.

what do you guys think? has this idea been discussed already? forgive me because im too busy to look through the many threads, nor do i have a habit of regularly doing that for anything

2) There's some mods with containers, but first one far more popular.

Best containers that I'd seen are in Rimatomic mod. But they're only for nuclear fuel rods :) Truly awesome work - with animation both of retrieving/storing AND show graphically amount of space used.

A quick question related to containers, specifically shelves:

Enemy pawns will pick up weapons near them, correct? IOW, if they get access to an area where there are stored weapons, there's a chance for them to swtich out and pick up a better weapon or not? I know that escaped prisoners will, but am unusre about actively attacking raiders.

The reason - I'd like to stage some weapons shelves. (vanilla, 18) But, i don't want enemies picking up loads of hand-grenades, charge rifles, miniguns and power armor if I have to fall back...

"Locked Weapons Lockers?" Would an item like that be my only workaround? (I don't want an entire room at every bunker dedicated for each single weapon.)

Dunno about weapons, but this mod will solve all problems with apparels :

Think like you're building some early warning system, so your colonist no longer will be catched completely unprepared :)

(this mod allow instant switch between several types of outfits. in vanila you will need it mostly to have combat/non-combat outfit, but you can do more)

I had not realized how much I required Stack XL mod until I switched to 1.0 unstable and didn't have it. Not to mention whichever mod in live gives me pallets.

I am a food hoarder, and my freezer is nearly as large as the rest of my colony.

I've looked at that and am surely going to use that or something like it for 1.0.

What I want to do is ensure shelved weapons would be selected by raiders if, for instance, I have to retreat or if they hit an area where they're stored before I can defend it. For Prisoners, I know that they will try to grab easily available weapons on their way out, but I'm not sure about raiders, who are already armed, on their way "in."

I want a few specialized weapons readily available so I can change loadouts, like sniper rifle to a more close range weapon. Or, having a selection of grenades, "just in case." That sort of thing, which is perfet for the existing shelf object just so long as it can't eaily be raided... (A "Room" is better, but it's a lot of non-tactical space to devote to that.)
