Trapezohedron!!?
Why is it so much luck based/random

I've killed a lot of both types of turtles: adamantoises/adamantortoises and long gui's
I understand that it's a rare drop and all that
but so far from selling them platinum ingots that i have been getting
i have upgraded 3 weapons to maximum: taming pole, lionheart and hawkeye to level 100* omega-ultra endgame weapons
then a bunch of accessories from 0 to max like:
3x magistral crest, 5x kaiser knuckles, 3x champion belt, 3x moonbow anklet and many more
which all roughly took 14mil+ gil to buy/upgrade
+ i have 5mil gil left over
^ that's roughly over 120 platinum ingots sold (it's a common drop but i've seen a lot of empty drops from both turtles: long guis and oretoises)

and yes im using:
collector catalog (increase common drop rate)
connoisseur catalog (increase rare drop rate)
but i recently swapped out collector catalog for kaiser knuckles on lightning

my team:
fang strength 3826 magic 2221

lightning strength 2808 magic 2208

hope strength 1302 magic 3717

long gui kill takes: 3 minutes
adamantoise/or tortoise- whichever is left behind after finishing all the missions i kill in less than 2 minutes

it's a gabe Jan 2, 2016 @ 5:11am
I don't understand the purpose of this thread :/ Yes, Final Fantasy have always had ridiculous drop rates. I daresay it's common for JRPGs as a whole, as PSO2 has insanely low drop rates and PSZ also had some of its own (still to this day I'm kind of farming for better gear in PSZ). I needed several days to farm my Sagittarius A in XII, mostly bc I would get too tired of running back and forth for the Moon Ring and needed to just leave the game for the rest of the day, so frustrating it was. Good thing I didn't care about ultimate weapons other than the ones my characters needed, cos I hear the drop rate for some other materials or the weapons themselves is worse than the Moon Ring.

Do you happen to be playing on Easy mode? Rare drops on that mode drop in probability to nearly non-existent.

Wanna know a secret?

Get one Trapezohedron and upgrade the Belladona Wand to Nirvana and get it to Star rating, then Salvage it, you'll get 3 trapezohedrons back out of it, allowing you to get Fang, Lightning, and Hope's weapons to their final forms with only having to farm one Trapezohedron

A 5-star Long Gui fight with the rare catalogue should net 27.5% chance for it, so on average one should drop for every four kills. Unless what tiornys said is in effect, because on Easy mode, the chance is around 0.27%. (Or 2.7%? It's either 1/10 or 1/100 rare drop chance.) On the other hand, on easy mode, it is probably faster to kill adamantortoises and get their 95% platinum to sell it. They drop in a few seconds, especially against a post-game party.

If you're going for the treasure hunter achievement I would just go for the triple trap salvage trick mentioned by scipo. Of the 100+ adamantorts i killed on normal, i only got 2 traps but I had more than enough plats to buy the rest of the traps to upgrade to ultimate weapons.

I had more than 6 Traps by the time I had all the Platinum Ingots I wanted... are you 5 starring the fights? Otherwise the drop rate is much lower.
omg this is so ridiculous :)
I farmed like over a 100 and got 0 traps but a lot of platinum ingots so i actually bought 2 traps and made the "triple trap trick". Anyway, who would have known that after i spend all my moneyz on upgrading and beating cactuar mission i would fail so much with dark matters. Over 50 Shaolong beaten and 0 and no way to collect this bunch of money (needed 5 asa i read).
And now i know why... Easy mode...
