Unfortunately the witcher sets are the only way to go as they are still way too powerful. I liked the look of many of the relic swords but they were just too weak.
I wore Ursine for most of my play time because I primarily use melee and I liked the high defense. Honestly though, focusing on melee wasn't the best for my build though because I actually developed a more balanced melee and signs chaarcter so switching to Wolven made more sense in that regard as well.
If you want a more dynamic combat, get cat gear with hemorrage runes. Even when the enemy is immune to hemorrage they'll get some hard hitting strikes. So it's more reliable than the igni build.
Tho i prefer the wolf gear as a jack of all trades. It boosts your melee and your signals just enough so your Quen will last for a couple hits even on max difficulty unless you are against something really hardhitting foes.
It's a balanced gear and quite fun to use.
If you plan on playing on max difficulty, be aware that you'll need to dodge a lot, and ursine gear (as any other heavy armor) has a great energy regeneration debuff. So you'll get less damage per hit, but you'll get hit more often (unless you are really good at energy management).
