All the other factions are just for shooting at unfortunately, because I really like the look of the (SPOILER) faction's ships that you see at the end of the game.
And I'm gonna be basic and say that Blackgate is my favourite.
It's got a crap load of broadside ports and a crap load of turret mounts.
There's just not much reason to use any other ship once you are able to afford this one.
There is one I know I will buy later for sure - came across the Sorcerer dread; it's so cool looking with the X wings :)
So is it worth to do the mercenary line as well? I was concentrating on the merchants, is it possible to go and level up with the mercenaries too?
The sorcerer is the best looking ship (none of the ships are really amazing looking tho, imo), but using it is much like painting a big bullseye on your hull: almost every shot fired will hit you.
I must say this game is pretty addictive - now I'm doing 1-1.5M mecr missions flying the Minotaur and having tons of fun.
Is that Sorcerer that big of a target? Will give her a try tho once I have the spare 11 M :)
Dreads are designed to take punishment and dish it out ( they get a bonus to hull, shield and broadside range). I run a Sorcerer with full mk6 equip (field impact shields and deflection absorber) and so far the only thing that can take down my shields is a huge swarm of fighters. standard combat against other capitals is to warp in and open up from 6+sm with my proton broadsides while my turrets handle the fighters.
speed is better then armor - just depends on how much armor you have ;)
yes the sorcerer is pretty much the biggest thing flying around in space.
Aye, the smaller ships pack a lot less punch. Fortunately the Ramming Deflector and Magna Mines dont seem to scale in damage, they deal the same damage on every type of ship. (larger ships just means you can carry more mines)
Ramming Deflector + Magna Mines in close range makes up for lacking turrets and broadsides.
The Minotaur is a bit of a puzzler now, I cannot seem to find an effective loadout for her; right now I'm rolling with lazors (particle, mining and two salvaged Viridians), leech (got lucky and salvaged two mk6) and a shieldbuster. They somehow don't mix. Maybe I should go with a full missile load, don't know yet.
Seen that antimatter probe - is that something I should try?
Yeah. The description isn't exaggerating when it says it has an insanely large explosion radius.
Higher level Antimater probes can even take out a large ship's shields in one hit.
