What is your most favourite ship?
For me first it was the Scarab first - it is not very expensive, turn rate is really fast and has 7 turret hard points, ideal for an early game.

Then I was able to afford a Barracuda - it is a Corvette, and surprisingly more expensive than the Dravius, which is a Heavy Frigate, like two weight class above the Barracuda. But oh my the speed! It is ideal for fast cargo runs and smuggling, she can make you credits really quick, so I was rolling with the Barracuda for a long while, until my merchant rank allowed me to buy the -

Radovich. It is an excellent ship, so much so, that I do not plan to buy anything bigger. It is really fast, and with the Maneuvering Booster sub it really turns fast, with 7 turrets and 8 broadsides it can go toe to toe with Leviathans even. Installed the EMP ablation and Fault tracker subs as well, and the 8 neutron beams as broadsides really look cool.

So what is your fav ship in this game? I'm also wondering if I will be able to try/buy those cool looking Viridian ships later on?

Did you try the Sturville (mercenaries rank 3) frigate already? Almost like the Barracuda, just more punch. Also, the Vanguard heavy frigate is a beast. But no, viridian ships are not for sale.

The only ships and weapons you can buy are from these factions:
-Citizenary
-Militia
-Red Devel Cartel
-Merchant's Guild
-Mercenary's Guild.

All the other factions are just for shooting at unfortunately, because I really like the look of the (SPOILER) faction's ships that you see at the end of the game.

And I'm gonna be basic and say that Blackgate is my favourite.
It's got a crap load of broadside ports and a crap load of turret mounts.
There's just not much reason to use any other ship once you are able to afford this one.

Blackgate, Sturville and Vanguard? Thanks guys, seems theres much I haven't seen in this game yet :)

There is one I know I will buy later for sure - came across the Sorcerer dread; it's so cool looking with the X wings :)

So is it worth to do the mercenary line as well? I was concentrating on the merchants, is it possible to go and level up with the mercenaries too?

Yeah, you can do both. They're not rivals or anything so you won't lose standing with one if you incerase your standing with the other.

Thanks for reply, I'm just at the merc office, and trying to decide whether to sign up or not. You helped me to decide :-D

Woohoohoo! I'm loving the looks of the Minotaur - the merc destroyer; will work towards to get her, starting with the Sturville. Thanks guys :-D
Tennhauser and the starter corvette.

For me it would be the Hammerhead, and Barracuda second. Can't match speed in this game. You'll take 90% less damage if only 10% of the enemy attacks actually hit.

The sorcerer is the best looking ship (none of the ships are really amazing looking tho, imo), but using it is much like painting a big bullseye on your hull: almost every shot fired will hit you.

:) I'm actually thinking on dpwngrade to the Tennhauser to see how it fares with high level stuff installed - if you can keep level 5-6 shields on that ship.

I must say this game is pretty addictive - now I'm doing 1-1.5M mecr missions flying the Minotaur and having tons of fun.

Yes I found that speed is better than armour. You can fly circles around the bigger ships, always reposition and receive a lot less damage while dealing out a lot. The only problem is that these fast ships just don't have the teeth to kill leviathans - and with my current mission profile I need to do just that.

Is that Sorcerer that big of a target? Will give her a try tho once I have the spare 11 M :)

Dreads are designed to take punishment and dish it out ( they get a bonus to hull, shield and broadside range). I run a Sorcerer with full mk6 equip (field impact shields and deflection absorber) and so far the only thing that can take down my shields is a huge swarm of fighters. standard combat against other capitals is to warp in and open up from 6+sm with my proton broadsides while my turrets handle the fighters.

speed is better then armor - just depends on how much armor you have ;)
yes the sorcerer is pretty much the biggest thing flying around in space.

Aye, the smaller ships pack a lot less punch. Fortunately the Ramming Deflector and Magna Mines dont seem to scale in damage, they deal the same damage on every type of ship. (larger ships just means you can carry more mines)

Ramming Deflector + Magna Mines in close range makes up for lacking turrets and broadsides.
cool, will try that tactic thanks :) I was wondering what that ramming deflector would be good for, but since I have hard time avoiding collisons anyway, I'll just go and buy one. Magma mines and ramming deflector - I will buy them.pronto.

The Minotaur is a bit of a puzzler now, I cannot seem to find an effective loadout for her; right now I'm rolling with lazors (particle, mining and two salvaged Viridians), leech (got lucky and salvaged two mk6) and a shieldbuster. They somehow don't mix. Maybe I should go with a full missile load, don't know yet.

Seen that antimatter probe - is that something I should try?

Yeah. The description isn't exaggerating when it says it has an insanely large explosion radius.
Higher level Antimater probes can even take out a large ship's shields in one hit.
