Why did the ESRB rate this game Teen?
There's a kid I know that is interested in getting this game, but then found out the game is rated T with a violence descriptor. Does anybody know how this game got that rating?

I can't think of anthing in this game violent enough to recieve a T rating. From what I've seen, attack animations tend to be just a single frame and are stuff like a whacking seagulls with a doll, or sometimes just pointing at the opponent. I have not played single player nor seen every card in this game, so maybe there is something very violent in one of those things?

TIL that this game is rated T for teen and, after 1,200 hours on this game, I cannot think of a single reason as to why that is.

Well one character does have a gun, and it's implied that she shoots her opponent with it.

And a character that carries a 16x rocket and is also implied that she bashes her opponent with it as well.

Or the implied child abuse? (Marie Poppo looks like a child... I guess...)

Poppo is actually hundreds of years old so it's ok.

Wow. If this is the case, I'm surprised that I don't force the rating up to M for mature...

There is some mild swearing in the campaign missions.

ESRB is not affected by online interactions.

the game is rated T for violence, alte uses a gun and marc uses rockets, you clearly see store manager get beaten to a pulp. that is enough to bring game to T rating. however, ESRB is not very consistent... witcher 3 and gta v have Ma ratings for example, when gta sa and hatred have Ao ratings, those two are well in the range for Ao just based on the sex scenes alone. tl;dr, don't trust ESRB.

Yeah, I know. I'm just joking.

And Saki's grenades, which she even uses as melee weapon in AoS, but I still think with how all this stuff is depicted, all this would count as cartoon violence. Even AoS got E10+, which contains said grenade bashing: http://www.esrb.org/ratings/Synopsis.aspx?Certificate=30551&Title=Acceleration+of+Suguri+X+Edition

This thread made me wonder what PEGI thinks of 100%OJ, but looks like they didn't rate it.

because it has anime lesbians fighting each other its very violent

Yeah, as stated above, cartoon violence, no matter how subtle, is enough to warrant a T rating.

Don't let that limit your decisions though, violent is really not a word I'd use to describe this game. That is, if you exclude the brutally getting murdered by seagulls bit.

Doubtful, Smash 4 is rated E10.

That said, I'd say OJ is rated T for intense scenes, since seagulls[mattmarks.files.wordpress.com] are[s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com] pretty[bbs.boingboing.net] nasty[i.redd.it] little[media.giphy.com] buggers[n3b6p5n5.ssl.hwcdn.net].

I thought she shoots Rockets at her opponents from Red Barrel.

Well, the 9s from Manager are not something that kids should see anyway...

It's been a while since we got the rating, but as far as I recall the main factor was the online interactions - it's basically impossible to get a lower than T rating for a game with unmoderated multiplayer elements like online chat.
