It's like playing against the AI all over again. Except some of of them are jerks, atleast the AI is never a jerk about it's actions, it's just a wheel of random decisions that may benefit or hurt you, with no thought nor malice behind it... Ussually. (You never know with this game... It can be so cruel...)
Sometimes you find non-English-speaking players too, that's kinda the same deal...
Kinda wish i had more players to play for fun with, talk a bit, witness their reactions of utter despair and disbelief (of which there will be many, knowing this game's cruelty), be able to take it a little bit easy, keep on going for a while (instead of leaving after 1-2 games), and just have fun... (All i can try to do by now, since i maxed out on Oranges and i don't need EXP anymore.)
Ah well, atleast the community's friendly, for most part. Probably one of the friendliest you'll ever see on online games. Just hard to find the type of people you want if silent orange grinding types that play 1-3 games and log out (because their daily challenges are done) aren't the ones you're looking for. Even made some friends here and there, i guess, so it'll be fine.
The AI can do very dumb things, which is balanced out by rigged rolls on the higher difficulties. It's not exactly ideal, but it's still interesting enough to try to win.
Overall I enjoyed playing online with strangers, but I usually only do that during seasonal events (around Valentine's day, Summer, Halloween, Xmas), when there is more activity due to special in-game rewards.
Lol, that reminds me when I typed "ha ha ha" in a text-to-speech application, and it said "hectare hectare hectare".
Playing online with randoms is always fun.
The single player campaign, however, is a complete pain and a real chore but necessary to unlock all characters. I'm glad I went through the trouble, but seriously, it's not exactly fun.
Fortunately you only need to do the campaign to unlock the non-DLC characters (unless you've bought the voice pack, in which case buying it unlocks the characters it voices automatically, if i remember right).
That or you could spend Oranges on the purple warp thing in the store to unlock a non-DLC character you're able to unlock but haven't yet (but to be honest, it's probably better spending oranges on cosmetics, unless all you need is Tomomo and don't want to beat Tomomo Hell for that).
Doing it on Normal or Extreme (which also gets you the Normal reward) does give cosmetics (and homes/dice/etc depending on the campaigns), though... For the dedicated completionists out there... :P
I'd pay actual money for text to poppo.
it'd likely cause a lot of ragequits though
- a group of subsequent vowels becomes 'o'
- add a p at the beginning of a word that doesn't start with a consonant
- append an o at the end of a word that doesn't end with a vowel
- I forgot: Only a single 'p' at the beginning of a word
If other people aren't talking, sometimes your talking about the game can encourage them to talk.
FYI, make sure your lobby is public, if you just want people to jump in. You can do this simply by not setting a password on your lobby.
When I play I generally make a public lobby, then when people join I ask them whether they want to wait for more players. If they do, I usually wait for a little while longer, say maybe several minutes while I clean my desk or something, then try to get three or four players to start a match. Sometimes I also ask people on my friends list if they want to play.
I like to joke in game chat about the match, but sometimes I don't, especially if it's late and I'm tired and just trying to finish a certain daily challenge.
Note for newbies (since OP is one): Most people play at speed 4 in multiplayer games. Some people play at speed 3, and I personally prefer speed 3 (because I think speed 4 makes everything look like it's had too much coffee), but I generally set speed 4 only because other people like it. However, when you're starting off, I strongly suggesting keeping it at the default speed 2 as you learn the game, since that'll give you time to notice what's happening and learn the game mechanics. I also strongly suggest playing the campaign to learn the mechanics. (You get cosmetics for finishing it on Original and Extreme difficulties!)
