Cant download maps

I'm having a problem downloading maps. Server switched to Silent Fright and everybody else downloaded the map between games like on the stand alone but mine would not download, just stayed at 0 and never even tried. I've also subscribed to the holiday pack in the Steam Workshop which contained Silent Fright about week ago, that didn't download anything either even when checking it already says I'm subscribed. In fact, nothing I subscribe to in the Workshop downloads, ever. Do I have a setting messed up? What's going on? Help please.

On a related note, I have all the maps from the previous version so I already have Silent Fright. I just can't find the directory of the maps location for Steam. Using Google I found a suggestion to try Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamapps/common/Quake Live/(user number)/baseq3 but going to that directory, I can find no maps or folders containing maps. Are they somewhere else?

Check Steam settings - Downloads

check your region is set sensibly for you, and the limits aren't blocking anything. And it's probably best to have 'allow downloads during gameplay' ticked (then you can disable it per game for online games in the game's properties)

workshop items should update any time you start steam if they've been updated. If background downloading is off they should at least get listed in your download queue, and I think you're forced to complete downloading them the next time you try and start the game before it will let you play.

They download to somewhere in
\<YourSteamDir>\SteamApps\workshop\downloads\
while downloading, then get moved to
\<YourSteamDir>\SteamApps\workshop\content\<AppIDForTheGameThey'reFor>\<WorkshopID>\
when they're done, and that's where they're loaded from when you start the game.

If there's still nothing then I'm at a loss without trawling through the main Steam forums, as it's going to be a general issue with Steam not QuakeLive.

I can answer your question about maps. They are no longer individual files. All the maps are bundled together in a single pk3 file, except bloodrunintel for some reason is separate. The map packs you download from the workshop are also bundled into one pk3. When the game updated, all those individual pk3s you had before are now gone unless you backed them up outside of the Steam folder.

Funky, UNSUBSCRIBE from the workshop. Zombie and I both had this problem. Once you unsubscribe, it will download the map.

I made all the changes Yakumo suggested, unfortunately without any results. Then I uninstalled Steam and reinstalled it per the link Flashsoul shared. Still won't download anything from the workshop. However, when I open QL there's buttons marked Steam Workshop and Steam Community. Before the reinstall neither of those buttons worked at all, now they do, so at least its a start. However, the workshop still does not download any new maps when I start the game. Tried a joining a server that was on Superspace, another map in the Holiday Pack on Steam, again nothing would download and I was locked out of the game until a map switch.

However, I did copy Silent Fright from my backed up copies of maps from the previous version. I pasted it into just about every folder I could find in the Steam Directory for Quake Live and now I can cv map Silent Fright in practice mode. Have not had a chance to try and join a real server on Silent Fright yet but I assume if I can practice on it I can play on it too. So I'm guessing something worked but unfortunately I did not take my time and test with each new pasting individually so I'm not sure which folder made that one work. Or maybe after the reinstall the workshop downloaded that one map but not the rest? I'm so confused and lost.

I'd try manually downloading the rest of the maps and pasting them into folders but I don't know how to download something out of the Steam Workshop without using the Steam Workshop. I don't have Superspace from the previous version, never heard of that map before. Is the Holiday Pack available for manual download from github or anything?

Oh Lint! Are you saying to unsubscribe from the Holiday pack in the workshop? I've tried unsubscribing then resubscribing without any results. Should I log out of Steam between unsubscribing and resubscribing?

May have spoken too soon. Just opened Steam and QL is downloading 90.2 mb of content from The Workshop. It's never done this before. Will update or delete a few messages if this works out, thanks.

Success! I have no idea what changed between last night and this morning but all the maps downloaded and I can now cv all the maps in the Holiday Pack during practice mode. Looks like I'm good to go, thank you everybody! Time to get to work, I don't get paid to play Quake Live lol.

For some reason, when you subscribe to the workshop, the client pak does not match the server pak. You do NOT need to resubscribe. Servers tell the client where to download the maps, so you do NOT have to subscribe to get the maps

Ok, I have the maps and I can play them in practice but when I try to join a server it says invalid pk3, what do I do now?

I have uninstalled Quake Live and am currently downloading it again. This should delete all the maps and start me fresh, right?

I'm having the same problem. I can't get maps to download at all. I have the Steam settings to allow background downloads etc, and nothing seems to work... :(

Server sync with workshop maps is currently borked. They are supposed to release a fix but who knows.
