I've never played a Quake game before, and I wanna get started with this one. But, is this game's online multiplayer active? I wouldn't wanna spend $10 on a dead game...

Yes, active, but playerbase is exponentially smaller than let's say counter-strike's.

You can have a look at these charts to make an idea: https://steamcharts.com/app/282440

All steam period here: https://steamcharts.com/app/282440#All

Here is a third party tool where you can see almost all the servers (beside those who block the tool) in almost real time (it has a few seconds delay): https://ql.syncore.org/

Here is another third party tool where you can see stats of servers and players, again only for servers that are registered (all relevant servers are registered anyway) https://qlstats.net/

If you ever liked old school Quake 3 then you should like Quake Live too and 10 bucks should worth buying it.

Thank you for the server lists. I have trouble finding servers in Quake Live menu.
I was surprised to find it is indeed. Going to be playing myself more often. I HATE Champions and all of it's nonsense.

No just blatant aimbot and esp
Active enough, I suppose. I'm always able to find a Clan Arena or Unfreeze match so that's all I care about. Just realize that everyone still playing this has been playing for decades and can play quite well. You WILL get smoked but, I promise, you'll get better playing with these people.

Don’t listen to Baxzy. I’ve never seen a single cheater in all years playing the game. I am 99.9% sure he faced some dude that has played for 20 years, and able to obliterate everyone.

The community is more alive than what I remember was 7 years ago. It’s super easy to find a server at the evenings.

The only problem I see for a newcomer - many strong opponents that will kill you a lot, and not many average/low level players that you can practice with a bit more easier.

So welcome to Quake Live, and don’t give in your practice :)

Also be ready to be kicked if you have bad internet. Greasy tryhards dont like that:qlfrag:
Also: it's not the best entry but you can try Quake Champions to get an idea of the gameplay you are in for. I prefer Q3 / Quake Live BUT, at it's core, QC still like Quake. And it's free so you can use that to decide if you want to purchase Quake Live.
I think you are all misunderstanding baxzy, what he assumes is cheating, is moreso this game's awful netcode. Unless you have good internet anything above 50 ping and none of your shots register, if you join a game with alright ping and then someone else with high ping joins it makes you lag, why are we getting punished for someone else's high ping? I can understand why he thinks they're cheating, but they're not.
