He also leaves cover to open doors which is really annoying.
of course you must leave cover to open doors - game simulates you being in arms reach of an actual door.
If you have a gun the icon changes for doors too - you can shoot around them as cover
try left clicking to attack rather than right click - more silent.
I can easily sneak walk all the way up behind the computer AI and perform an attack - once the attack starts keep clicking the attack icon when it appears else they will strike back - i found it to be a case of timing the clicks rather than repeatedly spamming the mouse button - this way you attack and don't leave an opening for a counter attack
