Conspiracy Theories

Does anyone have any good theories about who we are and what our actual purpose is? From some of the stories I've found at terminals in game, I'm beginning to wonder if we are a simulation of the Atlas' creator. I've found terminals on Space Stations in the areas that require a Level 3 Atlass Pass that has me thinking about this.

Maybe the Atlas is simulating us to see if we can find a way to prevent it's death (if we created it) or maybe it's lonely. For a while I thought we might actually be the Atlas but I'm not so fixed on that after some other lore I came across. I'll keep making up conspiracy theories until there is a definitive answer :D

If you follow the story you will get all this info for sure. Yet you will have different choices about what to do. Its' only that I don't want to repeat the whole story just to see where a different choice 'branch' would lead me :)

...then you will get responses to your questions and a choice about how to proceed. I'd be curious to know what happens if you chose the first option, will this end the game and how? I have chosen to follow Atlas Path, another option is continuing exploring.
