Getting bored, looking for new things to do in the game.
My first playthrough, at “the purge” mission. I have acquired my first freighter. I am also currently progressing through the star birth quest. But I’m getting kind of bored. Give me suggestions.

NMS really is one of those, "make your own fun", kind of games. If you're really bored and are into making music, you could play around with that Beat Byte tracker thing. Here's a tutorial someone made:

If you got bored after only 45 hours and can't find things to do there is a chance this may not be your type of game. Nothing wrong with that and 45 hours isn't bad for a game. The story and quests are not what makes this game.

You would need to set your own goals. People do all sorts of things, scenarios and challenges in NMS, it's hard to tell what might interest you in particular.

there are absolutely tons of side missions, and even more with the new update i believe. maybe try getting yourself a settlement, or maybe start exploring derelict freighters. Or if you like flashy things, find a dissonant planet and search for a sentinel ship.

Move on.... not everybody is able to find himself entertaining things to do in NMS, it's basically a sandbox.... then eventually come back after next patches.

I just started a civilization on NMS, it's officially recognized and would be great if you could join us. https://nomanssky.fandom.com/wiki/Royal_Space_Federation

Some days I do nexus missions. some days I do guild missions even though I'm at top rank with guilds. Some days I find a planet with numerous underground life forms and start looking for caves. Some days I really start messing with the food mechanics. Some days I go core jumping. Some days I go on a tour of outlaw stations and gamble on the random outlaw tech upgrades (with good results I might add). Some days I see how far I can really upgrade one of my starships. Some days I use the food I make to feed my living frigates and see what I can do with their stats.

One day I even tried to enhance a creature's genetics by using a lot of chocolate cakes in the egg sequencer at the anomaly. Results weren't as wild as I'd hoped for, but it was a little interesting.

There was this one time I was doing one of those standard freighter rescue battles (not the new type with the big pirate ship). The freighter under attack was this big, 6-segment star destroyer-y type of freighter. Somewhere along the way, I must've accidentally shot either the station or the big freighter I was trying to rescue. They started shooting at me and sentinel ship started coming in. I was like, "Trying to help you guys out and this is how you thank me..." Wound up blowing away the big freighter, lots of sentinel ships and the sentinel dreadnought they brought in. Lost a lot of rep with the gek that day lol. But, I know I'll just get it back down the line. I mostly try to be a "good guy" but there are days this game makes me feel like freaking Thanos.

Bottom line-
This is a grade A sandbox game where imagination can almost take flight. you definitely need to set your own goals and do your own thing. If you don't have much of an imagination then you might need to do something else.

Go full pirate and attack every trader you see. Screw rep, reap rewards.
