Red icon on bottom right of screen - not sure what it means.
I often have this red icon on the bottom right of my screen, but I don't know what it means. Here is a shot of it.

Can anyone tell me what that means?

Means you have a full inventory.

Ah, of course! Thanks! That was driving me crazy and unfortunately I am almost always dealing with a full inventory since I just left my first planet and have yet to upgrade ship or suit. I am a hoarder in explorer games and I am constantly trying to figure out what is worth keeping.
I generally keep 1 stack of things (a ship stack of 500 as opposed to an exosuit stack of 250) keep 1 exostack of Titanium (easily farmed by killing sentinals) for Oxide refils of my atmosphere protections 1 exostack of Iron and 1 exostack of Plutonium.

Depending on what you are searching for you can create about 10 or so Bypass Chips when you get to a signal scanner and just spam whatever you are looking for, I would recommend starting off by scanning for Shelters so you can expand your Exosuit slots. After that I would then recommend scanning for Colonial Outpost for the elusive Atlas Pass 3 and other rare goodies.

EDIT: I would also say vendor anything that doesn't stack, they aren't going to be used till end game recipies like Omega and Theta varients, as for farming the purple background elements, you can do this by finding crashed ships, swapping over to the crashed ship (without transfering inventory) then scrap everything that the crashed ship has and transfering the decent stuff back to your inventory, then go and reclaim your decent ship.

LOL, the Steam link to my screenshot got removed by their filters.

Thanks for your advice. I will keep that in mind. I have yet to get to any place where I could sell anything and I have three items that are not stackable that say they are trade commodities, which I assume I can sell when I get to a merchant. My next goal according to the pop-ups on the bottom is to find life, so maybe I will soon get to that point.

You mention scanning for shelters so I can exand exosuit slots. Would you please elaborate on that? I have found shelters, but if there is a way at shelters to expand my exosuit I totally missed it.

I know this game wants you to explore and figure things out, but I think it could give you a little more advice up front.
Ok, I just stumbled upon my first outpost and was able to sell those trade commodities. I also got my second planet to 100% so building up some decent units I think for just starting (over 600,000).

I still don't know how to expand storage space at shelters, but I am going to find a shelter next and try to sort that out.

When searching for the shelters, you have a 50/50 chance of something called a drop pod showing up on your screen, each drop pod will net you 1 exosuit upgrade, I recommend doing about 10-12 scans then setting out and finding them all, this is what my inventory looks like at the moment:

Bear in mind I've played for almost 60 hours so don't worry to much if it takes a long time to get there.
