Easiest way to scan all life?
What's the easiest way to scan everything?

Normally it's not this bad... I've been running around on a planet for a couple hours now and i've only managed to find about 8/10. Sometimes i go almost half an hour of walking and not see anything.

I've swam in deep lakes and seas, gone through cave, kept looking up for those annoying buggers. Spent only a few minutes in ship relocating to new places and still coming up empty handed.
Do i need to fly to a new area sooner?

The personal achievement of having scanned everything?

Milestones and or achievements, need i any other reasoning?
I've killed almost 100 sentinels on this hostile planet in my search so i'm racking up those particular milestones at the same time.

I've since abandoned the search so all that time i spent looking was wasted.

I know for one life form it was underground. I couldn't find a nearby cave entrance so I used a grenade to blow a hole and get it,

Edit: Make sure to look up :) Some flying creatures can be really hard to spot.

First planet, I shot down a bird to scan it... and holding open the scanner and looking around does show critters at pretty extreme range.

My problem? I just found a critter that seems to be a tiny floating wisp... and I can't scan it and it seems indestructible. So much haaaaaate.

Holy hell. I just gave up and stood back, eyeing them longingly in the scanner... and suddenly, one scanned. >_<

Yea, on my third world this happened - was trying to line it up to laser it to death and after like a full minute it started scanning. Flying guys are the worst by far, I know you can see them outside render range as just white dots before they turn green or red, but that doesnt really help all that much when you're down to 1 or 2 species.

Sometimes it seems like the last few species don't want to spawn and caves are almost always devoid of life. I've only got 3 worlds complete so far :steamsad:

I think spawns are tied to the animals diet and agression. Some of the harder to find animals have restrictions you have to search for.

For example, animals with the 'stalker' aggression will only spawn in the planets dusk zones and vanish shortly before the dawn zones. Bird types often have the opposite spawn rates, showing only in areas where there is daylight, and disappear as night falls.

Granted, you can never be certain what animals you DO have until you scan them... But, after a while you'll start picking up on behaviors so you know what to watch out for while you're hiking around an alien planet. If you've tried hanging around a beach in the evening and nothing comes up, you can usually scratch than phenom off that planets list.

when you land on a new planet it will tell you about flora, fauna etc. look for abundant fauna on planets, since it will be easier that animals will spawn near you or just more often. i got 4 planets completed on fauna scan just like that. scarce fauna planets are a pain, you can walk 4 hours all around and find nothing

I know the experimental branch fixes the flying ones, but not sure about the super-tiny ones. I've only come across one, and yeah, it was a pain - couldn't kill it, and took forever to scan.

Are you using the scanner upgrades? - I usually find a high place then zoom in and scan the horizon with the scanner/binoculars. Hold "f" and right click to zoom, there are 2 magnification settings.
