What do the color borders mean in your inventory
I notice when you put tech of similar nature next to each other they both gain a coloured border.

For istance, put 2 beam techs next to each other and both get a green border.

Different tech's seem to have different colours.

For example Cannon tech seems to have red borders.

Scanner tech for your multitool have yellow borders.

If you seperate the techs neither has a border.

so go beam, cannon, beam = no borders.

Anyone know what the borders are meant to mean?

It means you're getting a bonus, ideally you want to have your beam upgrades all touching and one of them touching the beam itself, then have all bolt caster upgrades touching and touching the bolt caster, same for scanner upgrades and plasma launcher,

Well that explains THAT. Quirky.

Thanks kekti.

.. Crap, wish I knew this beforehand. Have Hello Games ever heard of tutorials?

Is there a way to move them around, or am I screwed?

Why do you need a tutorial for everything?

Remove the technologies and make new ones.

Is there *any* indication at all in the game that the position of items in your inventory makes a difference? Even a hint?

Hmm. I'd like to know more too. My phase cannon is next to my photon cannon and there is no other slot available next to it, so unless I move the photon cannon (which I don't have a blueprint for) none of the phase cannon enhancements could touch it. The phase enhancements have a border but they are touching each other. I wish to know how much of a difference it makes before I go trying to rebuild everything ;).

Don't think so. Personally, I don't mind there being some "figure it out" features in the game.

It can make quite a big difference it seems if it is touching the enhancing module as there seems to be a multiplier each one you stack. Also see here: http://steamcommunity.com/app/275850/discussions/0/360672383116425509/ (there is a pic of a weapon but this applies to Exo and Ship as well.)

You can still get bonuses if for example you were unable to put your +1, +2, etc.. next to the module they enhance but still place the upgrades next to each other, bigger bonus it looks like if it is also connected to the module itself though.

(Keep that in mind as well when getting a new ship as they come with some modules already installed that cannot be disassembled or moved)

Do we have any data to show that pairing up simalar tech actually gives a bonus, or is it that just the border around the tech installs highlights? I haven't see any indication of a "+ to mining" just because I have created some sort of synergy by connecting the corrisponding Tech upgrades. I would really like to see a Number breakdown in the UI to show that.

(keep in mind the multiplyer works better against another of higher value) +1 to +4 is marginal increase but I do not have the materials to show you right now the better scenerio) Photons on a ship can do some MASSIVE damage though stacked. Lasers can too but Photons chew through ships with ease.

I need my old savegame to show you better until I have time to run getting mats. I had quite an awesome setup for both "Mining/Combat" as well as Ship combat.

Look at the darker red on the damage scale in right of picture. That is a added bonus for the stacked items. Each item you stack with the same items gives higher output. (which is why I could not show you with my currect game because I barely have enough to get mats for the upgrades needed and I would have to hunt them all down right now to do it :S)

It is hard to show you with only a handful of items, but if you seperate the items from the parent (main module) it will give less bonus but wont hurt if you have them all together but just not on the main one since its still counting the other as a stacked bonus. (if that makes sense now)

Hey thank you for your reply, that was very helpful! I do notice the Graphical indicators showing those synergistic bonuses in your pic.

Thank you.

You're welcome! But I agree with you on the fact that they could really add actual number data for us to feast on. I like numbers more than I like graphical representation :D

I wonder if there is some trend for crashed ships to be configured less optimally, verses the more expensive ones you can purchase. My crashed ship doesn't allow any upgrades to touch my phase cannon, for example. The block of slots is missing the one below it in that column. Did I notice that expensive purchasable ships more often have a full rectangle of slots? Not sure.

Also, my Photon cannon shows 34% top right of HUD while flying around, and I don't know what that means considering other ships were stuck at 0 all while working fine I think, and there is no way to repair it anyway.
