I can't give materials to NPCs

Title says most of it.

I've encountered an issue where I cannot give elements to NPCs such as the traders on space stations or some of those you encounter on planets. I talk to them and I get the dialogue options to give 10 oxides/isotopes/silicates etc. but when I try to select the option to give them said resources, it doesn't work. The circle doesn't even fill up like it would normally.

Is it a matter of knowing more of the language? I've seen someone gift resources to NPCs within the first 20 minutes of their game during a let's play, whereas I tried about 3 hours in. What am I doing wrong? If anything?

Those options are there but they aren't selectable because you don't have the resources. They should be a bit darker but it's hard to tell unless you have a choice that's selectable that will look brighter next to them.

What you can try to do is back out of the conversation without choosing anything and then get what you need and come back. I think there is at least one race though that won't let you leave the conversation without a negative reaction. You just have to try.

Oh, but I did have the resources. Do they have to be in my suit inventory? They were in my ship
