Planting hundreds of plants in a Biodome
Since I'm on a PC, construction exploits like wire or menu adjacency glitching are difficult to do since it requires rather tightly timed keypresses, something much easier done on a console controller. However, I found simply altering the dome (with doors or corridors) and then removing them and adding them back, combined with successive waves of planting from different angles, will allow anyone to add many many more plants, - no menu or wire glitching needed:

The important thing to remember is that you have to complete the various waves of overplanting in a biodome before you exit a game. Apparently when you reenter, the biodome has been marked as complete so that instead of each planting snapping and turning green (able to plant), it snaps to the ring but turns red (unable to plant).

What's interesting about this technique is that it also allows mixing of species, which suggests altering the dome subtly resets the rings for any planting:

Here's a summary of the basic rules:
(1) you must complete all overplanting of a biodome you want to stuff prior to exiting a game. You can't resume when you reenter. Domes can only be overplanted once initially planted....if you leave then reenter the area, the Dome will be "closed" to further overplanting, - meaning the plants will still snap to the planters, but instead of being green, they will be red and cannot be overplanted. Domes that have not yet been planted at all, or virgin domes, will still be available for overplanting no matter how many times you enter or leave the area.
(2) Since this is essentially ordinary planting, the dome must be powered
(3) Each planting must be snapped to a planting ring in the dome, just like normal
(4) Each planting cycle will only be for parts of the dome, you have to figure out which ones each time by going around the ring looking for a snap. Many will be replantable, but bypass those that are difficult to plant. A bit like the SAT, skip the ones that will waste your time, and come back to them later.
(5) Since all doors and corridors must be removed between plantings anyway, use the opportunity to jump outside the dome to plant via the construction camera, then back inside. Getting the right angle is the only hard part of this technique, but there is no timing restriction other than finishing before you exit the game.
(6) Be sure to carry enough component parts for hundreds of plants...this could be important since portaling out of the base will shut down overplanting.
(7) Overplanting cycles can be triggered by items subtracted and added at a distance too, without directly adding or subtracting from the dome. But to get the greatest overplanting coverage, all building snap points should be turned over as well:

Just be sure to power the dome separately from the corridors since to maximize the overplanting, you will be removing all doors and corridors to the dome before you plant:

After letting it grow, here I harvested one biodome: 11,178 from a dome. But in theory, I could have planted much more. In this case I stopped after 6 or so overplantings. But yields 10X that of a once-planted biodome should be possible:
