Finding a venator capital ship
So I'm new to NMS I only have around 15 hours on ps4. I'm up to the section of the game where you warp to a new system and are given a freighter for free for helping save one. I saw a video about save scumming to get an S Class freighter and the video said it would work with the free one too. So I have spent the last 5 or 6 hours reload saving and going to different systems trying to find the venator class freighter so i can grind for an S class one and despite visiting over 20 high economy systems and 15 middle economy ones, I am yet to see a single venator or dreadnought class freighter. Everywhere online tells me that they rock up in freighter rescue missions like the one I'm up to, and people seem to be having no trouble whatsoever finding what they want.. These videos are all a year old and probably outdated so I was wondering if I'm doing something wrong here or how I can increase my likelihood of finding the ship I want!! Thanks :)

You have to warp 5 times and/or have played about 5hrs. There may be another requirement for early game stages.

When you get that far, you will be confronted by a freighter battle involving a capital freighter as soon as you warp into a system.

If the freighter is of the design you are looking for, after winning the battle, check with the freighter captain to inspect the freighter class and slot count before purchase. If you save your game before making the jump, you can then reload if the class/slots aren't what you're looking for. Return to that system after your reload, and the type of freighter will remain the same, but class/slots will differ.

If the freighter battle involves the "wrong" type of freighter, reload and jump to another system, and the type of freighter will differ.

There are 2 types of Capital ships, and once you are due for such a battle, you will find a similar battle in any inhabited system you visit

After rescuing a freighter being attacked by pirates, you can board the freighter and speak to the captain to trade in your current freighter and buy it for the difference.(Large cargo ships, very expensive).
You can also buy cargo ships floating in space, indicated by a cargo ship icon without a frame. (not large cargo ships).

Now, as for the timing of the freighter rescue, it seems that "3 hours and 5 warps" is not a "sure thing" as of the recent update.
Even within three hours, they may appear at the second or third warp, or conversely, even if three hours have passed, they may not appear at the fifth warp.
In any case, if you warp to an outlaw star system or a star system with a high conflict level, the event will occur with a higher probability.
In addition, it is true that the Venator class seems to be difficult to appear, but don't worry, it does appear.(This is an old OP, but mentioned in passing).

If you like the shape of the freighter you encounter and want to choose a class, you can board the freighter, check its rank in the analysis scope, then reload the autosave and start over from the battle.

Since the update, I have a couple of times gotten back to back pirate battles on successive jumps, especially if one of the target systems in question was an Outlaw system.

You have a chance to get your first freighter for free. After that you have to buy them. You do get some "trade in" value for your old freighter, but you still generally need to pay 100 million units or so.
Be sure to transfer any materials stored in your old freighters inventory before completing the sale. Also, since you can now uninstall and store most tech, be sure to do that as well, so you can transfer your old freighters tech to the new freighter.
And, finally, you should get an opportunity to transfer your old freighters internal layout to the new freighter. Handy for those of you who like building massive layouts in their freighters.
