Bases: connecting wood to older base parts
Ok, so i've worked out that you can connect a wooden platform to cylindrical/cube rooms but doing the following: build a wooden door, then place a metal door over it, then connect a corridor which allows you to then place cubed rooms etc.

However that process doesn't work in reverse. So my question; is there a better way to connect different base parts together?

Sorry, I don't have an answer, but I wanted to thank you for posting what you've discovered so far, since I've been trying to figure that out!

Yeah, it's a bit of a convoluted way of doing it. I don't know why you can't just connect different base parts together. Unless it's a bug, because there are problems snapping together pieces that are definitely supposed to go together.

I discovered you can fit a wooden/metal/concrete door frame to a normal corridor or T junction. That makes it possible to connect the new wood parts to the old parts. However there really doesn't seem to be much joined up thinking with base parts in general. We seem have at least 3 sets that work as sets but not together. Hoping this will be fixed over time.

From my expirience building is atm very buggy and not very well implemented :/

But you can't connect the smaller doors which makes no sense. A lot more needs to be worked on for base building.

I also noticed that the wood/metal stairs are not the same height as the cuboid/circular rooms. So if you wanted to stack rooms and then build a staircase from the outside, you can't because they don't match up.

Still no improvements after a year. The issue about connecting different base parts together bothers me either.

Just connect a corridor to a wood wall. No need for the door, unless you like that.

The cuboid rooms will sit on a flat roof or individual piece floor. Right sized so you can add stairs going up.

I don't have corridors yet and I've already seen the workaround for this but howsoever, this doesn't really solve the issue. There are quite a few bugs regarding the base building system and HG should fix this.

The base-building seems like different developers were allowed to build different systems while not talking to each other... It's like if LEGO sold you 3 different sets that you can't actually connect. It makes no sense.

If you look at other game, they have a standard architectural "unit", and everything is multiples of it.

Another insanely frustrating thing is the triangle pieces without any matching sloped triangles. So if you chose to use triangles, you're committing to not be able to build a matching roof unless it's flat...

And when you enter free rotation mode, all hell breaks loose, and nothing snaps to anything, and it's impossible to line up a rotated piece to anything...

The prefabs and cuboids were done at one time...and the individual pieces were added in a later update. They can be made to work together, but it isn't great. Until the individual pieces get wiring, I will never really use them for much.

The cuboids will sit on top of an individual piece room...and just the right amount of room to build an individual piece ladder...so you avoid the stupid sticky ladders or cuboid...catch your foot on the last rung stairs.

Here is an example of how I placed cuboids on top of individual pieces. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1633535857
