a limit on how many plants you can have at your base?
so i was in the process of building a base to get farming done i laid out 12 large hydropoics trays and when i tried to set another it said limit reached
when i began planting some fungal mold i was only able to plant 2 large trays worth then it said limit reached
ive seen in youtube videos that people can plant alot more then this so what am i doing wrong
ive got it all laid out in a large cuboid room attached to the starting base
do i need to split these on different levels or what.
i really cant start my farming project with just 8 fungal molds i need alot more to get into making unstable explosives

Vanilla build limit is 2k objects pr base.

Also you can disable that if you want but others might not be able to visit it.

my base is still pretty bare bones as ive just starting making it only about 25 standard cuboid room and the hydroponics trays ill try and disable it i dont really care if people can see my base but i need to get that farm up and running to start making real money
Glass-domed greenhouses are more effecient though...plus you're going to be spending all day re-charging the trays. I would prefer hydro trays though if they weren't such a pain though, b/c look a lot cooler with the gas effect and are attune to better integration within the base.

Yes plants count toward your building complexity too. Like RazzleDazzleRootbeer said, focus on building biodomes instead. They hold 16 plants each if you build it on top of cylindral rooms with a ladder, and require no recharging. But most of all, they count for less complexity than the 4 quadtrays and cuboid rooms to plant the same amount of plants.

Another good idea in case of crafting liquid explosives is, to build your base at a toxic planet where fungal mould is growing. There you are able to plant fungal mould directly outside without any hydropoics etc. Ok toxic planets are not the nicest, but who cares, if you need to farm units ;)

Yeah nice tip LuckyLuke, but there's an even better way. I started over again yesterday and got really lucky in that first system. I build my base on a hot planet, with a desert moon. No need to farm Solanium and Cactus Flesh anymore, the two slowest plants. :)
LuckyLuke Aug 28, 2017 @ 2:45am
Ah, 9inoren you are crafting the other thing, giving high amount of Units. I didn't do this, because you need only fungal mould, mordit and cactus flesh for liquid explosives. I build my base to craft 13 liquid explosives. The problem, that fungal mould is growing very fast, an catus and mordit slower, i prefer planets with cactus flesh during making sub quests. Mordit you get on the way of soliving specific sub quests ;) But your way with your planets (moon) is also a good one. Probably a question of taste ;)

Yeah I'm farming for liquid explosives, living glass and circuit boards at the same time. The way I did it before took 45 plants in 3 biodomes, but now I'm trying to figure out a more efficient way. Cutting the total growth time of 2 hours into 1 is a start :)

I play on PC, so it's nice that I was able to raise the build limit. I made it 80,000, never again will I have an issue. Heck, I even made a second landing pad.

Although, I have a CPU cooler issue, so my desktop is out of commission till I get the money to replace it. Not a huge deal, I have a basic laptop (non-gaming) to keep me online till I get the replacement.

Dang it, I want to build my base! :-(

@GrandMoffVixen: Do you mean, you raised the base limit from 2000 to 80000 in the config-file ? DON'T DO THIS! You will definately get huge problems if your base is going to big. You may get chrashes everywhere, not pointing to a base problem. I figured it out, i could raise the base limit to about 7500! My System : i7-4790, 24Gb RAM, GTX 1070;)

Yep, I did raise it to 80,000. With no point of reference as to what my PC can handle, I arbitrarily set the limit.

Do you have more info on that? Of note, until I get my desktop running again, I am unable to alter the file.

I had set the limit to about 12000 and got those problem. Fortunately i had been able to access my base and reduce the size of the base until the game runned stable again ;) You may try it your self by raising the limit in short steps. But don't forget to make local backups of the saves at those steps to be able to restore you base ;)
LuckyLuke Aug 28, 2017 @ 7:21am
By the way. Don't go to the maximum possible, because new updates may lowering this maximum ;) I am using the setting 4000 at the moment and it"s enough for me ;)
