Building Signal Booster
Hi! I'm trying to build a signal booster but I'm lacking the technology for it. I'm scavenging several planets and receive a bunch of techs and upgrades for the multi tool, suit and ship etc, but I cannot build a signal booster! When trying it just tells me I'm lacking the tech.. do you have to do anything in particular to get the tech or do you have to reach a certain part in the game? I'm in my third system and have the "goal is in the stars" mission by atlas active right now...
Thanks for any help!!

It is given by the Construction Tech you hire to start your Base.

Thanks! But I cannot hire anyone.. the hiring option is greyed out and only "I need to prepare more" (or the like) is showing... I didn't inhabit a base yet cause I didn't find any structure that let's me interact with it in that way.. what to do?

Or do I hire a construction tech before setting up the base? Maybe I was just speaking to the wrong type of specialist until now..

Find a Habitable Base on a planet, claim it as your Home World, then you will be prompted to build a construction module and recruit a tech.

Exactly this. Once you do that and start the step and follow out the quest steps, you will fill in the ability to make tech and the Signal Booster will naturally become available.

Just take it one step at a time, and the progression sequence will flow for you. ;)

You can scan for them from space or lucky to find them when flying around on a planet/moon.

Make a Signal Booster and set it out, it's a menu option on the Booster. It will mark habitable bases with a special mark, not the "?"

Haha the original comment was exactly about how to build a signal booster! Seems we're stuck in a loop: need base to get tech for signal boost
need signal boost to get base

I'll take your advice and keep on scanning for a base FIRST however, since I understand you can find one without signal booster.. your comments are appreciated! ;-)

I believe that is my fault... The BEACON comes from base building. The Signal Boost is already in your build menu. Press Z and you should see the "Save Game" thing; press 'Q' to move left and you will see the Signal Boost. Sorry for the confusion.

Hmm, I must have missed that somehow.. maybe I mistook "beacon" with "signal boost" at the time I was trying to build it? ANWAY, I followed your advice and scanned some planets and voila! There appeared a base for me to occupy.. good thing the planet was infested with emeril as well hehe.. and as both of you said, I hired the tech guy and he wants me to build a beacon but I need to find the recipe for the voltaic cell first.. if one of you got it laying around let me know :-D

Sounds like you are up to the place I am in game. Good Exploring to you!
I see alot of people being confused with how the quests flow. They sort of clump up and it's easy to lose the order of them and they do have to be done in an order to unlock things to progress the quest series for bases.

I think the best advice I can offer, if you get stuck in one of these loops like it appears the OP and many people have, is to go back to all the NPCs and note the quests and trace out the requirements, and see which one(s) you can go complete. There will always be one of them that you can go get the requirement for and complete. That should get things moving again.

danielbozi have you found a Habitable Base yet? If not the best way is to sit in a system and do scans from your ship. Also near and scan each planet too. Eventually it will locate and mark one for you. You can do this on a planet, but it might take alot of walking to locate one by chance or from an alien station that will point you to one.

Let us know your progress and where you are at. I am sure we can offer more help if you are still stuck in that darn loop. ;)

For me, I found a base by flying around. It never registered, but a lone round building in a big clearing sticks out. Once I claimed it, I didn't get much going for a few systems afterwards but habitable bases started showing up on my scans. The Gek farmer definitely didn't spawn in the Space Station in the system of my original base. I kept moving on until I found one, then went to my base, built a terminal, then recruited. Same for science farming, weapons, etc.

Anyway, I'd advise to find a planet you like and make that your home base. Once you start building, you lose half the ingredients of built infrastructure. Not so bad for most things, but losing a galactic terminal pissed me off. Making circuit boards takes time.

I find bases all the time now, but there's no point in moving it. If you get stuck, just talk to your recruits. After finishing a quest and getting a reward, talk to that same NPC again for the next quest.

I guess you're right Wardova that once things start to flow it becomes more obvious what to do.. for me it was also to learn how the game communicates certain things, but I'm totally loving it so far! Anyway, thanks for your comments, will keep the channel open ;-)

Oh that's wonderful to hear! Very glad you got it all working. I have myself suggested a more directional quest path, as being able to open up multiple quest paths can sometimes either get them snarled up or at least end up confusing the players, as there is no log or very obvious tracking of which was first and what is required for each. (The order and requirements are vague sometimes.) I think we may need a quest UI at some point, if they add many more quests or intend to down the road.

The players are here and willing to help though, so chime in here if there are more questions.^^
