Finally found a good use for the Colossus
I'm never going to use the Colossus for mining on my home planet, or on any other for that matter, so it's just been sitting there in the yard taking up space since I built it to finish off the exocraft quests. But I've finally found a good use for it - it's a starship "upgrade kit".

I'm flying an A-class 38-slot fighter, and I'm always on the lookout for an S-class 38-slot ship to upgrade to if I ever happen to stumble upon one. When I do, of course, I'm going to need a ton of resources to upgrade the new ship to the optimized configuration of the one I'm flying now, and I'm not going to be in the mood to go on a big mining and trading expedition to collect what I'll need. So what I've done as I travel around is to load up the Colossus with most of the necessary resources to do the upgrades all at once. Basically what you need is half of what it took to build all the upgrades from scratch in the first place, plus a few tech objects here and there for those cases where dismantling the stuff on the ship you've leaving leaves you one short.

Here's a screen shot of my Colossus:

There are not quite enough slots to make it absolutely complete, but my freighter carries around anything I'll need that I can't fit into the exocraft, such as omegon and the five gravatino balls I'll need for one of the upgrades.

BTW, these upgrades used to be so easy pre-Pathfinder. Instead of a time-consuming mining and trading expedition, I'd just salvage one or at most two 47-slot or 48-slot ships and I'd have all I needed. Things were simpler in those days.

Yeah, no kidding. It would stop a lot of complaining if we could get our wrecks back to pre-Pathfinder. This broken slot and "value" differential thing is an unnecessary inconvenience. It's not even a challenge, it's irritation. I reconsidered the the ship size to slot ratio due to the fact our exosuits can carry more than the ships thus creating another game inconsistency. Having to use Colossus for storage demonstrates how worthless it is an exocraft. Shoot, my multi-tool actually works faster and collects more resources than the fully upgraded mining beam. For that matter, my 23 slot multi-tool carries more than most ships. Another inconsistency.

I use mine for storage, but I love your idea. Some of the stuff that I store is for ship repair anyway.

Exocraft are great, but should be further improved with specialization, imo. Nomad should be the explorer (better scanning capabilities, more building scanning options, the fastest, unable to mount a mining laser), Roamer the Colossus smaller brother better suited for quick mining ops in hard to navigate planets, and the Colossus the Miner, with a more powerful mining laser, bit faster and specialized resource scanner, so we could scan for something specific existing on the planet, not something random 15 mins away that might just be heridium.

i use mine to mine iron and carbon for building since it can hold 500 per slot

I'm hoping the Colossus will be a combat vehicle in a later update, the technician strongly hints at that when he gives you the blueprints.

But to combat what exactly? The only thing on the ground, right now anyway, to combat are sentinels, and they're pretty easy. I really don't see HG going in the direction of ground warfare. But I guess we'll find out on the next major update.
