I do totally agree with Bane, however. Not having key rebinds is a completely immature design decision.

Heck, its not even optimized for mining or combat, its all over the place. I should definitely look into that
5 hotkeys is fine. my 24 slots has mining beam, terrain manipulator, bolt caster, scatter blaster.
now when i wipe the first sentinel with scatter, i want to go to boltcaster to shot at ones far away, i have to cycle everything until boltcaster, if theres a cat sentinel, i go for scatter for 1-2 shots kill, but wait, they always summon more far away flying sentinals, so its a job for boltcaster, rinse repeat, sometimes you land in the wrong weapon and have to cycle thru everything while getting shot, i see absolutely no reason whatsoever for not having hotkeys for the multi tool, even if you use just 3 basic ones.
BTW I have standard photon and cyclotron ballista on my ship, frankly its all I need, but I wouldnt condemn anyone installing a third one... I don't know what's in your mind my friend but this meta gaming seems a little bit counter intuitive to Nms proposal...
I only use 3, although you can have up to 6 now.
I also remove the mining laser from my weapons using the save editor.
This brings to mind another pet peeve of mine... expiring menu selections! The Comm system is one example, and I have to think they did that for giggles, as the system only stays put for a couple of seconds before it goes away! Then you left-key to open the channel and shoot the ship in front of you. Like the Terrain Alteration gun status... randomly changes itself back to "MINE" while I'm assessing whether I'm through with "CREATE" or "RESTORE", and I wind up digging a bigger hole when i'm trying to fill it!
How about leaving the menu WHERE I PUT IT UNTIL I DECIDE I'M DONE WITH IT!?!
As far as the weapon configurations go, if it were EASIER TO SWAP MULTI-TOOLS I could understand single-use guns... I'm happy with Primary/Secondary, but can somebody tell me why I need the secondary grenade launcher active while I'm using the primary miner? This can be annoying, especially since in any other mode but Combat the right key is the "clear" key.
One more thing about Multi-tools... (and extra ships, since we're on the topic): Why can't we have a menu where we can compare/configure multiple ships/multi-tools side-by-side? This goes back to the clunky tool/ship switching mechanic, but we should be able to do something like this at least in our freighter or base? Or is this just another sop to our Console brethren and sistren?
