Teleport Times Too Long
It's actually faster for me to walk to a neighboring base, or even fly to the space station, than it is to use a teleporter. Should this be instant like with the base teleporters?

The teleport time is simply a loading screen. If it is taking a long time, you may want to look at your rig's settings.

Unless you are in some system that is full of bases, it should not be an unreasonable amount of time and quicker than flying to the station from the planet. The loading is impacted if there are a lot of assets it has to bring up.

Good to know. Still, I wonder why my base teleporter is instant, then?

I guess it seems really odd to me that teleporting should take so long. I get that it has to load a station, for example, but seriously, I can fly there from my base quicker than I can TP. I don't seem to have any lags other than this one.

I am not sure what you mean by "base teleporters". If you are talking the ones that just let you go short distances around your base...it is really not reloading any data. All of the area you can see is already loaded in memory.

I think what she means is that to go from the base teleport to the in-system space station is taking way too long.

For me it is just as long as going to another system. Which should not be happening. It should not be loading anything since I am not leaving the instance just going to another place in the same instance.

Yes, exactly. I have no lags or long loading times with anything else, which tells me it's not a hardware issue. It just takes too long for it to be an actual teleport. It's more like taking a train. :)

I guess OP talks about when they use (Base Teleport Module), between their base and the space station in the same system

I took and measured how long it takes for me, so the OP can compare with my values.

From a base in Euclid to the space station in the same system, 15 seconds.
Return to the same base, 20 seconds.
From a base in Euclid to a base in Eissentam, 20 seconds.
To its space station, 15 seconds.
Return to Euclid Space Station, 15 seconds.

My spec, PC, win 10, cpu ryzen 5, gpu radeon rx5700.

It's because when you use those teleporters it dumps the current data, to load your destination fresh. How computers work, is the data is stored in the "memory". That memory is getting dumped and refreshed when you use the teleporter. It has to do this since you can use the teleporter to jump to entirely new systems. Therefore it has to dump all the memory and re load it all.

When you're traveling in a system, everything in that system is already loaded, so no loading screens, and faster travel.

Teleporters are meant to be used to cross systems, etc. Not jump within the same system.

(This is why base mini teleporters do NOT have that loading screen, and are instant. They only work in that system, so they do not have to dump the memory.)

I've never seen anything that says you can't teleport from your base to a space station in the same system. The length of time is the same, however, whether I use it to go to another system or in my own. It makes no sense.

In fact, just yesterday it somehow got hung up for five full minutes going to the station right above me. I decided to let it go to see how long it would take because I could tell it wasn't frozen, just slow as hell.

Yes, I get all that. However, my point remains, which is that the whole idea of teleporting should be instant.

I get that the way it's set up now makes this impossible. Maybe there's no way around this, but maybe changing it from teleport to one of those bank suction tubes would be more accurate. ;)

It's slow because your computer is.. old? not up to snuff really.. Teleporting is almost instant. The loading in this game is actually insanely good and fast for what it has to load.

With that being said, if it takes only a few seconds to fly to your destination, why not just do that instead? Literally losing.. a few seconds at most..

If you want that instant loading time.. Get a better computer. Specifically with more Ram, graphic memory, and even more importantly. Solid state drive (SSD)

Really? I just bought this computer new a year ago.

My husband has a brand new, much more powerful computer. His loading time for teleports is often longer than mine.

As I said, I have no issues anywhere else with loading -- in any game, nor anywhere else in NMS. Just with teleports.

It's fairly sure it's not my computer, but the teleport coding itself.

As a last resort, I've just tried re-downloading the game to see if that makes a difference.

Solid state drive (SSD) will honestly make a huge difference. (really everything in the computer matters, processing, RAM, etc. If any of them are weak, or underpowered, the whole computer will suffer.) I often times see people buy a "gaming computer" or top grade computer but it comes with an underpowered piece, or weaker component that ends up slowing the whole thing down.

Out of curiosity, how long does it take for you to teleport? For me it takes about 5-10 seconds tops, and my computer is about 4 years old. (The SSD attributes the most to loading times.)

If you're getting around 10-20 seconds then you're pretty much at the peak of speed it can be.

The last tp was a full 5 minutes, but that was before the recent glitch that doesn't allow me to save at all (since the update). The typical time is about 30-50 seconds.

Nothing else in the game is giving me trouble except that.

Unfortunately, I can't play at all now with this saving glitch.

Well, check to see if your drive is an SSD. If you truly want blisteringly fast loading times in every game you play. SSD is the way to go. :)

I may do that. I'm still not sure why my computer doesn't lag with anything but teleports, but it may be worth a try. Thanks!
