This game is not intuitive.
I found an abandoned ship early on. I needed to buy tech to repair it. Went to a space station & bought the tech. Game refused to gice me an icon/waypoint marker, whatever even though it was my last planet fall and all searcxhed of logs, journals, quests, what have you refused to even mention that such a downed spaceship ever existed in the first place. This game destroyed in a matter of seconds all interest in contuing with the current save game. It makes me angry faster than it entertains me. Sure there are ways to solve the problem I just had in the future, but a properly designed game never would have had this problem in the beginning. I continue to feel like I paid far to much for not near enough. I don't even have the dubious pleasure of creating some sort of avatar for myself but must forever wanderer arounbd feeling disembodied.

NMS is mainly about exploration. Maybe you want to construct a signal beacon next to your point of interest. Like a crashed ship. And maybe you want to stay patient, as it's a very long journey. Fly safe!

This might be something else that's not yet fully implemented for whatever reason. Those poles are called "waypoints", and they do say "save and CHART", but they don't do anything except provide some chump change for a discovery upload.

Perhaps an upgraded ship UI might be in the works that would allow to see/unsee any such waypoints we activated, as well as (or instead of) any beacons we dropped out in the wild. That would give "waypoints" a purpose (ie, they'd actually BE waypoints), and we'd want to decide if we wanted to activate the thing or not.

As it is, the planetary systems can become a mess of markers all over the place, filters in the ship might be nice.

Oh, I don't disagree, but the way I see it is, it's either something they've consistently managed to overlook since before launch, or it was meant to be part of some sort of larger system we haven't seen yet. I'm hoping on the latter.

orcsarge,

You're right though, early in the game you don't yet have the tech (beacon) to leave a marker to return to - so best to not travel very far away. A little farther in you'll get some tech that leaves markers.

What part did you need from the space station? Usually you should be able to get the materials needed to get the ship flying on planet. If I find a ship I want and lack enough supplies I usually travel on foot to get them, or just take a very short hop in my ship without losing the location. On some planets it's very easy to lose track.
