Chain Instant death...Multiple times.
Multiple times now I have been standing inside my base hiding from a storm with full shield, full health, full hazard protection, in a large building and I will just die instantly. The screen flashes like you get hit once, then it tilts up and death message. As soon as the message goes away and I load in, its instant death. I don't even get a chance to move, turn, open inventory (or most importantly recover my corpse and inventory). It will do this load into instant death like 10 or so times before it will finally let me load in. If I Alt-F4 out and try to load back in the game will continue to freeze loading in (usually while zooming past the stars) until I restart computer. I thought it was the storm originally as it is always during some sort of storm, but when it lets me back in the storm is still active. I even have several exosuit mods to protect from the elements I am currently enduring so the instant death that starts it all is kinda fishy...

Any explanation would be greatly appreciated. Am I missing something or is this just bugging out?

The new extreme weather types (lightning, fire, tornadoes, meteor showers) can be lethal quickly in the right conditions and seem to act even in normally protected places.

It is possible your base had too large of an open space that permits weather indoors. Some times it feels like the game glitches out on expected protection and you can start taking mass damage very quickly. I was losing health quickly and managed to launch my ship and get out of there...but three quarters of my health was gone in about 15 seconds. Fortunately, I was right next to my ship or I would have likely died.

If you do die, best to wait a bit before logging back in to give the storm a chance to die out.

I know from experience that a tornado will get you even if you are in a cave...I was on PD so it was scary when I suddenly started whirling around in an enclosed space. It did not hurt me at all fortunately. The tornadoes seem to be the least dangerous...other than falling from a great height. If you relax and save your jets, they are actually kind of fun.

The lightning strikes seems to be the most dangerous...or at least the most common. I have run into meteor showers twice and if you move quickly you can avoid much damage...but they do significant damage if you just stand there and take it.

Same thing happened to me this morning, several times... The game is being hacked because after what appears to be shocks, and shield down warnings, several times the game is taken over and a whole series of FU science quotes start popping up on the screen and you've lost all control... After several of these full screen quotes the game crashes to desktop over and over after clean reboots... I play survival and not on line yet these AH's have screwed up my game...

I hate to correct my own post on this but as I explained these crashes following the bizarre science quotes that kept popping up as it takes over your complete control my wife said, "Don't you remember this exact thing happened with the first NMS game you played.?" She remembered the weird quotes and multiple crashes that stopped happening if I remember right the next day... I think this exact event took place 2 years ago and I forgot but my wife didn't... Hopefully this terrible piece of devious code disappears tomorrow or my game may well be ruined...

I will come back at a later date maybe. This has basically took all the wind out of my sails for this game. I understand dying and I am not upset about that. That's part of gaming. What I am upset about is the fact you can not recover from an instant death loop unless you Alt-F4 and restart. If it was a one time thing I would be able to shrug it off and kinda "Oh well" at it, but it happened 3 days in a row now within probably 5 minutes of launching the game. The solution is most certainly NOT "just stay away from storms/bad weather planets"

I finally figured this crash out and it seems to actually be part of the game that I had forgotten from 2 years back and again my wife reminded me of how it locked me up before like you were being shocked... If you just let all the sci-fi screens come up with their quotes from famous people then the game will let you die and you will see your floating death monument... Getting close to it will allow you to open it and get all your stuff back, at least most of it... Sorry for all my confusing posts I normally stay off these posts...

I recently experienced this, while in the community Expedition. I'm standing in a safe place when the toxic storm hits, after a while I start falling through the world and can't control my character; my character dies. When I reload and go to retrieve my body, the storm is still going on and again I'm suddenly falling through the ground and can't control my character, then when I reload again, my save has been overwritten with the now inventory empty character. I was having so much fun for it to come to a screeching halt like this

Yup I died multiple times the same way a couple years ago but I did get all my stuff back each time until the electric shocks and stupid quotes finally ended... The coding of this death experience could have been written better because it just comes across obnoxious and of poor quality, but the game on the whole is excellent and was and still is a great value... I'm still pissed that I lost all my stuff this time and only got back a few important basic protections... Peace.

Just died a few moments ago at one of the new archeology buildings and again in the ship waiting out the storm almost died again. Flew up into space to avoid dying again. Really a little extreme in my opinion to die with max s class modules. No idea what I died of too. Planet data says howling gales but this was an almost instant death. Luckily it was in normal mode and I recovered all my stuff I think. There was no lightning and its not an extreme planet just a normal desert planet. Even has copper vs activated copper.
While I was there did see a worm but would that kill me while inside a structure?

Some days ago i landed on a planet and somehow it happed, that the shields (six s-class upgrades) was immediately down. The only possibility was was to start to space to avoid to die.
