"Nice" update for MacOs. [warning! horrible screens included]

5.00 -- changed nothing before update, but right now got red square at left, horror movie at the center... HUD, sounds works fine

Exact same issue here. The problem also appears on in-game displays like your ship dashboard, the creature discoveries screen, and others.

Sometimes the box is bright green, sometimes pink, but it's impossible to ignore.

The graphics are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ on my M1 Pro. Default resolution is now 400 x 300 and cannot increase the resolution to more than half of my display native resolution. First time I started the game there were no textures. Just a blob on the screen.

Similar problem as OP and Millsnerd - distorted box in upper left corner. M1 Macbook Pro, graphics settings on high. Setting Reflections to Standard (which disables reflections) seems to make the problem go away.

Turn on HDR, or turn off MetalFX. There's a few other threads about this. I found that having both on OR both off makes the game playable, but MetalFX without HDR only shows you the gloom and highlights. I didn't change anything other settings, everything else is still on the defaults assigned when I first opened the game (High in all sections; MBP M2)
ETA: tried resetting my defaults, got the dark screen of doom again - the trick is MetalFX Spatial and HDR. MetalFX Temporal will still show gloom.

Seconding the resolution issue.

defaulted to 400x300 and can't even get to half my native resolution. Completely borked on my M2 Pro Mac Mini.

Is MetalFX Spatial playable now? Last time I checked it was more aliased than having AA off completely.

Can also confirm that setting reflections to standard solves some issues.

I’m glad to know it’s not just me. The date is different but I’m having issues as of this last patch, it’s more like ghosting though. It almost looks like burn in.

I noticed it too. Turned down some graphics settings everything looked good. Went into my freighter and as soon as I pan across any lights from displays sunwells, etc, the ghosting happens and stays on the screen. OSX 14.6.1, M2 MPB.

On M3 my screen turns completely black (except one section) while in space, I can't really fly anywhere

I have the same issue. My screen catchs lights when I stay in front of something glowy and it stays on the screen like a ghost for like 5 minutes before disappear. It's really annoying...

When I talk to a character too. His face looks blurry in some part and it's shinny. It wasn't like that before the new update. I don't understand.

I tried every settings. It's just because of the update but I hope they gonna fix it...

Same thing on my end. At this point, every update on Mac basically makes the game unplayable for a few weeks until they fix it. I completely understand that the Mac audience is the people Hello is least interested in, but I'd rather wait a few more weeks for an update than have something glitchy and unplayable while everybody around enjoying the game.

Yes, it's exactly the same issues (your screenshots) ! + when you talk to someone, it's like your light turns on on his face, ahah ! But the game still rock and I have no lags in ultra settings ! Hope they fix it as soon as possible ! :'(
