How to get/make Deuterium?
I literally cannot progress without the Terrain Manipulator, but it says it requires that material, yet from my understanding, it's no longer in the game, right? Not sure what to do.

refine Di-hydrogen and Tritium

Deuterium can also be obtained from plants growing in space stations and outposts, or by breaking down pulse engine upgrade modules for parts.

You will need nanites to purchase the latter.

Note: the terrain manipulator blueprint normally calls for di-hydrogen jelly which is much more easily obtained - you make it yourself from the blue crystals poking out of the ground.

With a medium refiner I built on my freighter, combine Di-hydrogen and Tritium, you will get Deuterium. (created wherever a medium refiner can be built).

Deuterium can no longer be collected, it must be refined with Di-hydrogen and Tritium.

No more random gases from the potted plants? Shame - that stuff came in handy when tracking down the occasional 'missing' person with bribes and whatnot.

Since beyond all plants only give carbon.

Mine the "BLUE" crystals on planets for Di-Hydrogen and shoot the astroids with your starship for Tritium. AND READ YOUR GUIDE

I noticed. Where are we supposed to get our radon from now?

PS: I already know the answer to this one.

I suspect a broken or half-assembled Pulse Spitter is at the bottom of this.

so why this topic is in bug reporting?

The crafting/repair dialogue is asking for the 'wrong' components. I recall reading something about it before but have no idea whether a workaround was ever established.

It's not asking for the wrong component, but the way it says you can acquire it is wrong/outdated.

Deu-ter-i-um : an isotope of hydrogen.

Di-hy-dro-gen : also hydrogen.

My bad. It's been a while since I built the Terrain Manipulator, but I do know that the game tells you (or used to tell you) Deuterium could be harvested from plants. Since OP asked about Deuterium and said it was no longer in the game (which is inaccurate), I went along with it.

PS: I know the isotopes of hydrogen, you don't have to be condescending.
Nettle Apr 4, 2020 @ 6:39am
No condescension intended. I'm honestly not sure what the difference is, chemically speaking.

All hydrogen isotopes have 1 proton (or else they wouldn't be hydrogen at all). Protium (regular hydrogen) has no neutrons, but deuterium has 1 and tritium has 2, for a total of 1, 2, and 3 nucleons, respectively, hence the names.

Simply put, the additional neutron(s) make the atom(s) more likely to decay (nuclear fission), heavier, bigger, change the shape of the electron's orbital, a bunch of stuff.
For chemistry in particular, the fact that an atom is bigger and the orbital has a different shape changes electronegativity and ionization energy, among other things, which affects how the atom forms molecular bonds and how it behaves in certain environments.

It's obviously much more complicated than that, but that's the gist of it.
