Stuck in Patterns in Time (Water planet)

I just got to the mission where a Korvax cartographer tells you to go get some anomalous watchamacallits, the quest marker tells me to go to a planet, when I get there, it's underwater and the planet is like just water, no land in sight for miles. How am I supposed to get to this location? The ship can't land on water, apparently.
