Animation issue on Mac since Worlds Pt1 : most creatures necks permanently twisted to the right
Hi there

Just sounding these forums out again on this bug in case anyone else is living with it or has found a solution?

Since the Worlds Part One update, for me; almost all creatures, whether wild roaming, as companions or being ridden have their necks & heads permanently bent right round to the right, in all animation states.

This even affects many synthetic buildings which lean, 'facing' right as they walk. The only creatures I have seen not to be affected are some of the newer frilled dinosaur designs that have come out since this effect has been happening, or creatures which do not have an actual neck as such.

All fauna animation was fine before this update and I think I first noticed the effect after experiencing the early bug in Worlds Pt1 where attempting to ride a spherical walking building threw and spun the player 50m up in the air and messed up the camera. That particular bug was corrected very quickly.

I posted a thread here some months ago about the head twist, to which a couple of people replied they'd seen a similar phenomenon, and I've supplied numerous bug reports, screenshots and save files to Hello via Zendesk for examination over the past few months, but it doesn't seem to have helped uncover anything so far.

I am on a Mac Studio M1 Max, now running OS Sequioa, though I was running Sonoma before.

I have completely wiped my NMS installation and purged all traces of it from my system (making a back up of my save files on another disk). On a fresh game I still see this effect as soon as I encounter creatures and am now at a complete loss what to do. I do not use mods of any sort.

Could anyone offer any thoughts or suggestions please ? There might be something I might not have thought to try. It would be much appreciated as it's got to the point where it's actually putting me off playing, and I do love the game.

Thank you.

Hi there and thanks for the response, sorry to hear you have the same issue but at least i know I'm not alone !

No I'm afraid nothing has worked, even a complete removal of all NMS and Steam files from my system and starting a fresh save didn't work. I've actually pretty much given up playing for now because it bugged me so much, which is a little sad really.

I posted about the issue on another thread in the general discussion section a few months back, and several other Mac users responded who were afflicted with the same issue too. It just seems to be on M series Apple Silicon Macs.

I've submitted many detailed bug reports, updates, system logs and screenshots etc over the months since Worlds Pt 1 launched via the official zendesk helpdesk system, but with no result so far, so unfortunately I don't really know how to progress the issue.

it's a bit disheartening I'm afraid, but all the best :)

I've got this, too, but I stopped noticing it recently and assumed it had been fixed.
Same thing here. I found it kind of amusing at first that everything was alway looking off to one side. Just another example of the Atlas going mad.

Same issue here on my M1 Max Mac Studio and it was happening before Sequoia.
The animations are still broken in the new Worlds Part 2 update also.

I tried installing it just to see, but was disappointed to see this bug still persists. Looks like lots of new wonderful content in the new update though.

Might try another Zendesk submission, as it's been a while since I've last nagged them with it, one can hope it's on the bug-fix list :)
Just to report ... 5.54 appears to have FIXED this issue !

Logged in today, 10 February and creatures are now animating correctly, looking all round and doing what critters do.

What a relief, thank you Hello Games !
