Color issues and flickering when starting the game the first time on a day
Hello! Help needed: I have been enjoying the game but it has a weird issue that I cannot find in any forum/website. When I launch NMS the first time, (i.e. right after booting the PC OR after playing another game), the screen flickers while loading a saved game. Right after selecting the saved game, the screen goes black and will flicker green then go back to black, flicker blue and back to black. The flickering lasts only about a second and repeats this cycle until showing the screen with the stars the NMS logo. Once the saved game finishes loading, the colors will be messed up. As a workaround, I close the game back to the Desktop and restart it. The second time I launch the game, I see no flickering on the black screen, the game itself loads fasted and the stars loading screen is faster, too. No flickering at all. I am not experiencing this issue with any other games, etc. The flickering started about a week ago aprox. Some specs: Win 10 64-bit, Nvidia GTX 1050Ti, latest drivers and all OS updates. Shaders folder is blank, no Mods.

I am also having this exact same issue I have been experiencing. Quite frustrating and I have noticed of late sometimes even closing back to the desktop has no longer seemed to resolve it for me.

Same problem here... screen flickers, colors will be messed up like playing a beta version of the game with no colors, Win 10, 64 bit pro, Graphic card older than yours GTX 950... but it works at low Graphics... i have tried almost everithing 4 days now. Re-install, verify integrity, I Delete all shadercache files. Nothing...

I've experienced this too since the latest patch, but just once. Saving, exiting out of the game, and then loading the save fixed it. I too have an Nvidia GPU. Slightly older than the GTX 960 - A GTX 680M, which incidentally runs the game fine on standard settings, but maybe because of the i7 CPU?

Maybe we should report it to zendesk.

Now that you mention it, this happened after the last update, Expeditions. I reported this problem to Hello Games' Zendesk but they we of not much help: "We won't always reply back to bug reports unless we feel there's further information we need. Rest assured though that this information will be extremely helpful in allowing us to understand current issues which should be fixed in coming patches".
If you have a similar or the same problem, please post it at Hello Game's Zendesk, so they can see this is becoming an issue.

I'm glad this isn't just happening to me.
I uninstalled/reinstalled the game and the first time loading in the problem was fixed but alas, the second time the problem was right back to where I started.
Went through all the recommended fixes on the Hello Games help page and nothing worked.

I reported it as a problem and got the same 'we won't reply' message.

Expeditions update really ruined my enjoyment of this game because that's when it all went wrong.

Yes. Need more people opening a ticket with them. Hopefully Steam will add some pressure, too. (??)

I have exactly the same issue with a GTX 1060 6 GB. at first I thought, my VRAM has a fault, but after quit to desktop and reloading the game all is fine. Im glad, Im not the only one with the issue cos you know - buying a new graphics card these days is a bit expensive.

Yep, experiencing same issue. I re-installed my drivers and cleared my cache for the game, and it went back to normal for about 30 minutes, then I tried to warp and the game got stuck and crashed. All the colors are glitched out and it's made it unplayable.

Same here. GTX 1070ti using the latest drivers.
Looks like everyone so far that listed their card is an NVIDIA card so far.

as many users with NVIDIA cards are having the bug, I wanna ask, if you all use the latest 466.11 driver? cos I wanna find out if its the game or driver related issue.

I'm using the latest nvidia drivers (460) on Ubuntu, and not having the same video problem with a 1660TI. Either way, I'm ALMOST positive this is a hardware/driver issue. Not Windows-related, not NMS-related. Any time I've ever seen video corruption during gameplay, it's a hardware/driver issue. Another point that @M almost touched on was that you're all using OLDER nvidia video cards. It's possible you've all got a temperature/power issue inside your computer. (It's more common than you think, especially for you smokers.) Rebooting can mask that problem because it gives your PC an opportunity to cool off. You might THINK the reboot solved your problem, but really, the few seconds of down-time gave your video card a chance to cool down a little.

Be kind to your computer! Open the chassis and blow out any dust you find in there. Maybe remove the video board and blow any dust off the heat-sink/fan. If that doesn't resolve the issue, try updating the drivers. If THAT doesn't work, try updating Vulkan. If THAT doesn't work... well... it might be time for a new video board.

I am using the latest drivers 466.11. Also, on the last comment, this is a new motherboard and beyond that, the issue happened after Expeditions. It works fine with other games and after restarting the game. No PC issues, my friend.

What about Vulkan? Or maybe DirectX? Does Windows/NMS still use that? Maybe some Windows Updates?
EDIT: Just checked; NMS runs on OpenGL/Vulkan, not DirectX.

thx for the reply and its generally correct, but the issue we have is textures with sprinkled colours on them, which looks like faulty VRAM. but the issue is fixed temporary with restarting the game - a system reboot is not necessary!
