2: Are you running at least Windows 10 and is it all up to date on patches?
This sounds like maybe a windows permission error. Have you run Disk Repair (right click your "C" drive and choose properties)? Note: My Win11 system lists it under "Error checking" with a "Check" button

Oh and yes you are correct the game now has two saving functions:
1: The Restore point that is created when you exit your ship or use a waypoint/save beacon.
2: The Auto save, which happens automatically at regular intervals.
The HelloGames folder was recreated just fine. There are files in there, but the game just keeps starting from the beginning and no save games can be loaded.
Windows machine is running Windows 11 22H2 with all the patches. The Steam Deck that has the same problem is running SteamOS 3.4.
Disk Check finds no errors. My user has full control of the HelloGames folder as do the Administrators group and SYSTEM.
I don't know how to check permissions on SteamOS or Arch Linux, whichever it is.
The game is installed locally on the Steam Deck; it's not streaming it from the Windows machine.
Totally stuck.
Hmmm - thanks for the update. To be clear I can only TRY and help with the Windows version of Steam/NMS. (no exp w/SteamDeck).
Let's hope I can offer a morsel of help :)
Okay, that is good info. I'm going to post an image of my save folder, compare it to your files and let me know which ones you have and don't have.

Don't worry about the .txt file <- I add those to all my save folders
Thank you for checking

Pretty much the same, I think.
When going to load the game though, nothing is listed.

I have actually seen this but hadn't tried it recently. I just ran through the steps and it didn't make any difference.
It's just weird that this problem occurs on both the Windows version and the Steam Deck.
Let's try something if you're okay with it. Select all four .hg files and make a zip file. Then email them to me at my steam name plus "tv" at gmail.com and I'll see if they load for me.
If you are uncomfortable doing that there are a ton of free file sharing sites the you can upload the zip file to. Here's some:

Cloud sync is off everywhere now.

I'm very grateful for your help.
Your character was siitting in his broken pillar
I opened your save file with the 4.23 version (before today's update). Both the Restore Point and Auto Save have been updated and were working fine. I haven't the foggiest why your PC won't see/open them.
Here's your folder with the updated files, give them a try: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1hGZVLYJ5moeTYAkuaVmcfFR4K19yVI-b/view?usp=sharing
