Loud Sounding GPU fan w/ GTX 1070
Hey All,

I wanted to reach out and see if anyone else is having an issue like me. I have a beefy rig and am running a 1070.

When playing NMS I feel like my temps are around a safe 72-75 (founders card), but my fan seems to run really loud. It's not constant just at times where I feel the game is loading in new textures. I don't get this with any other game such as Overwatch which is a nice looking title.

I'm going to buy the hybrid water cooler for my 1070 regardless for peace of mind and to manage my heat, but I was wondering if anyone saw this kind of occurrence.

Thanks!

Please keep us updated - I'm pretty interested to hear the results after the experimental version.

Played for a while here, around 20 minutes, and new sounds while playing in experimental mode. Fan RPM is 1783 roughly and temp is 66C. 74F in my house.

So far so Good!

Glad to hear things are a bit cooler now. It's good to see that this version is having an effect on the results. Hopefully you're also getting stable FPS on the new version.

Are you sure that's your GPU fan and not assist fans or something that come on some newer motherboard types these days? Those tend to spin up under minimal load, and since they're tiny, they whine.

No idea, I'm sorry. I had this built and really am not an expert. Now that the RPM is lower on my card though I can confirm the noise level is non existent. We are in a heat wave in New England today and I have the ac on but my house is around 73-74F. This isn't normal weather and it seems fine.

This is currently running as well as my other games.

Slight update...been on for about 30 minutes and still running same temps and rpm is around 1800, just heard the noise slightly.

Whatever they are doing seems to be optimizing it. The noise is connected with slit chugs in frame rates.

Good sign for trouble shooting! The game is improving on this front let's hope this goes live and then continue work next week.

Awesome. Things are moving in the right direction. Thanks for the update.

It's pretty humid here at the moment and I do no look forward to taking a fire extinguisher to my PC.;)

Just sat down for another hour and with the experimental game I can confim I am running better. I still hear every once in a while my video card starting to gear up and then MAYBE a little noise that sounds like its working hard, but then it dies off fast.

I think it's getting better. I've seen others with simialr issues so its not an over heating issue outside of the game.

Your card runs in a quiet mode. It let's heat build up to near max and then tries to blow it off quickly. Nvidia blower styles are also more likely to heat up quickly. A brand like evga or msi etc that use giant heat sinks and multiple fans can be set to run fans earlier with less sound. My evga 1070 runs up to 40c in this game with fans at 50% and you hardly hear them spinning.

Interesting! I didn't know that. I think given the fact that I'm hearing it less is a good sign for this new patch coming down the pipe.

Hopefully with better optomization comes less heat and pressure on the card.

After reading some other threads it looks like its my CPU heat that is spiking causing the sound of the fans to kick in NOT my GPU.

I switched back to the experimental verison of the game and now I'm going to try to run everything at medium and see what happens. I also have V Sync off.

I don't get this game.

vsync should be on, no point tring to render frames your monitor will never display.

I have vsync off and force adaptive vsync thru geforce control panel. I set that on day one and it's run stable 60fps. Using all the day one tweaks also took a load off my gpu overall.
