How I'm playing with an AMD Phenom X4 965 - AMD startup crash fix
You can play the game right now with an AMD phenom depending on how good your machine is! I'm using a method I found on reddit to confirm the sse 4.1 issue. I didn't try it at first because I assumed the performance would be dismal however I gave it a shot out of curiosity and the game isn't running half bad.

So first thing you want to do is download this file:

sde-external-7.49.0-2016-07-07-win.tar.bz2 (13.91 MB)

From this link: https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/pre-release-license-agreement-for-intel-software-development-emulator-accept-end-user-license-agreement-and-download

Updated - Mirror ---- {LINK REMOVED}

Click: DOWNLOAD Intel® SDE for WINDOWS

- Accept the agreement

- Download sde-external-7.49.0-2016-07-07-win.tar.bz2 (13.91 MB)

___________________________________________________________

*** Use the regular version not the experimental version ***

Next you want to locate the file you just downloaded and cut or copy it into the games
Binaries folder. It will be found under your:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\NoMansSky\Binaries

extract the contents of the file you downloaded into the Binaries folder. You may get a folder called: sde-external-7.49.0-2016-07-07-win ---- Just open that folder and take all the files from that folder and move them into the games Binaries folder. All the files from that zip should be located in the same folder as NMS.exe

Almost done!

So the next thing you want to do is find the file sde.exe again it should be in the Binaries folder --- When you locate it right click on the file and choose create shortcut.

Find the newly created shortcut and right click and choose properties.

Go to the field that is called Target. You should see at the end of the string this:

No Man's Sky\Binaries\sde.exe"

Change it to say this:

No Man's Sky\Binaries\sde.exe" -- NMS.exe

Apply and Okay the changes !

Note: If you try to emulate on WIN 10 you need to put the NMS.exe on compatible mode with WIN 7. Just right click on the nms.exe, properties > enable the compatibility mode and put win 7 ( thanks to Ragnaroz )

Next Step:

Create a text file in the Binaries folder and open it up. Add this to the text file: 275850 Then save it. Now rename the text file to : steam_appid.txt

Next close and reopen your steam client as an administrator and set it to run in offline mode.

And your ready to go. To launch the game go back into the Binaries folder where your Sde files are. You want to launch the shortcut you made should be called something to the effect "sde - Shortcut" ( right click and run as administrator )

Enjoy the game until they can patch!

This should work I haven't tested with the steam client as I bought mine on GoG but its working just fine for me. The performance will be reduced a bit and the initial load time into the game can take a few minutes but I've been playing all day like this just fine for the most part. Even got the flight stick to work! ( xbox360CE )

Hope this helps some of you get into the game!

UPDATED: If you had an issue with the shortcut going a folder i made a typo XD sorry the target should be No Man's Sky\Binaries\sde.exe" -- NMS.exe

Well, the point is:

They had this thign i ndvelopment for over 2 years and nobody bothered to run this on a common gaming pc?

I mean most people either buy complete cgamign rigs or use the templates from gaming magazines as guide towards building their rig.

Its not that hard to guess that many a pc will run the last good Athlon ever made, not to mention the fact that there are basically only 2 GFX Core manufacturers.

Perhasps sean should have at least try to start the game once before releasing it on steam....

I am reasonably sure a massive issue like this would have been detected with ease.

Its Arkham knight all over again.

For a 60 Dollar game, one could expect soem QA to be done first.

They made some mistakes but in their defense the game was advertised with an i3 minimum but they could've made an additional note of sse 4.1 compatible CPU. Either way they are slaving to fix the issue for people who did buy it with and old CPU like myself and I'm assuming you as well. Try the fix in the post and you can at least enjoy the game while they work on a hot fix.

No more "in their defense" crap. They delivered a broken product. Hold them accountable.

Also to the OP: can't open the file. Says I don't have permissions.

Cannot create symbolic link
! A required privilege is not held by the client.

THey said thay ssse 3 is needed fpr the havok engine and they need to speak directly to havok, Meaning they have no clue what to do and if phenom users will get to play without them actually doing some work and making it run for sse 4a. Unless havok can do somting id say we are screwed for the most part unless you want to go by a new cpu even though you ran fallout 4 just fine just for one already $60 indie game that kept all this hidden till last minute ans has been nothing but shady, im sure you could even downgrade in a sense to a diffrent cpu that reads ssse3 or sse 4.1 as well if you got any around

my Phenom II has sse3 supprt but still crash after starfield (with experimental build)

Any chance you can upload the SDE download somewhere? I always get redirect error with chrome, edge and FF at the intel page :-(

sse3<SSSE3(one that is needed)

This works. But its VERY taxating for the CPU, its like you're running 4 games at once. Not playable for me, but maybe if you have a godly rig you can enjoy the game using this method.

Edit: My specs are Phenom II 965BE / R9 280x / 8 gbs ram / w7
Can't get past 20 fps using this method.

Same. I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong....
TaoRaven Aug 13, 2016 @ 3:59pm
Meh. I just ordered an FX processor off Amazon. Screw it. It will be here Monday, and I'll be playing about 10 minutes later.
I'm not screwing around anymore.
