AMD Phenom(tm) II X6 1090T Processor RUNS the game @ 24 FPS!
Not a hoax and not click bait. ACTUALLY WORKS!

I'm emulating the SSE4 instruction set that the Phenom II CPU is lacking.

Because I'm really nice, here are instructions:

1. Download the file called "sde-external-7.49.0-2016-07-07-win.rar" from here: https://app.box.com/s/17pybkbuc8qmtn9p6urgwe0u3w82sfa0
2. Extract the file to : [where ever your steam folder is]\Steam\steamapps\common\No Man's Sky\Binaries
3. Create a shortcut to the program "sde.exe"
4. Right click the shortcut and add this to the target: -- NMS.exe
5. Example: "F:\Steam\steamapps\common\No Man's Sky\Binaries\sde.exe" -- NMS.exe
6. Save and close the shortcut.
7. Open the shortcut. Now you need patience. The emulator may take a couple minutes to run. If nothing happens after about 5 minutes, run it again. Eventually, you will get the Hello Games logo. When that happens, sit tight. the opening star field will be choppy as heck and it will take anywhere from 5 to 15 or so minutes. Eventually it will be done and you get a WHITE screen with the word initialize.
8. A the screen that says initialize, press and hold E
9. Now the game begins.
10. See you out there!

I tried this and it doesn't crash on the hello games logo anymore. However it takes forever to load and I don't want to risk losing the refund. I was flying through space with some named systems, then it went to a white screen and it's been there for ten minutes. Tried holding E without result. Despite all that, this gives me hope that the devs can actually fix this.

I have an Athlon II x640 3.0GHz and AMD HD 5870. It's a bit old but I can play Dragon Age Inquisition with this without problems so I don't understand how can this be so badly designed for PC considering it was a PC only game at first.

I'll wait for a week or so and if it's not fixed I'll refund it.

This emulatior fix only works on Win 7. Is that accurate?
Note: As far as I know, the emulator is not an efficient way to run the game at all. Performance you see during emulated play is not an indicator of whether or not you can run the game smoothly if/when they release an actual fix.

Works on Windows 10 for me, but i got time to time some lag spikes, really annoying, else it works fine, as fine as it can with this emulation.
I Know it works bad. Might satify me with my 390 until I get a used Bulldozer CPU.
after you get it to almost work but not quite your 2 hour refund time is up, and your stuck with a broken game
Hmm. I tried it again today, this time I actually saw the stars moving around and the named places popping up instead of a purely black screen, took a while but eventually the screen turned white, froze, and then closed itself.

Now, according to the developers this seems to be usually caused by not having OpenGL 4.5, which I do have, according to both Steam and GPU Caps viewer. I mean, the latest driver I downloaded -specifically- listed No Man's Sky, aswell as having OpenGL 4.5 support. I'm clueless now, but atleast I got a whole lot further than yesterday.

Yeah, I'm having the feeling even if they do fix the CPU thing, I'll still not be able to play. Gonna wait and see though, then decide what to do based on the results. :|
AMD Phenom II x6 1055T here

13hours + clocked ingame so far. My FPS is sat heppily at about 30, somtimes as high 40ish, but hasn't dropped below 20 for long. I get stutters every now n then but otherwise perfectly playable and enjoyable.

i too use the SEE 4.1 emy.

my issue currently is that bloody sound crackle. anyone else getting this?
This does work on win 10.. i got it to run.. choppy and slow but it does run
Thanks! Its working. At least can play until they fix. :)

The sound bug can be fixed by turning your sound quality down to DVD quality. I hope you know how to do that yourself, if not, I'm fairly certain one of the developers' posts explains it a bit more clearly.

I tried to also follow your instructions . When i followed them a dialog box opened up and closed very quickly but nothing ultimately happened. Thank you for the help though.:steamsad:

Sometimes you have to run it a couple times for it to work. I don't know why...
This is a FPS fix 100 % works:

Windowed mode = Borderless
V-sync = OFF
FXAA = ON
Anisotropic filter = 1
Detail Textures = High/Medium (depending on your GPU !)
Detail Shadows = Low
Detal Generation = High/Medium (depending on your GPU/CPU/RAM)
Reflections = Medium
Max FPS = 90
Disable Steam Overlay (the game runs horrible with it enabled/bugs)
Disable any Steam FPS counter (the game runs horrible with it enabled/bugs)
-
This makes my pc run the game full speed no lag nothing smooth gaming, Enjoy :)
